DanSC DanSC: Obviously it could happen. The technology to send people to the moon is over 40 years old, and we've been living in space long-term for decades. Because there is no atmosphere on the moon, having a moon base would just involve landing something like the International Space Station on the moon. Expensive and complex, but not exactly groundbreaking.
I personally don't see any benefit in a moon base. Anything we need to do in space can be done for far less on a space station, and a centerfuge on that space station can take care of any experiments requiring the moon's gravitational acceleration. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Then you woke up and the covers were gone! -- You can bet your sweet ass no man has landed on the moon -- How naive can you get -- I'll bet you also think an old diabetic in a cave demolished the towers - Typical Yankee brainwashed by Disney and CNN -- The fat lady hasn't sung on who killed Kenedy, who didn't go to the moon and who demolished the towers -- lets wait till she sings in the mean time bite me.

Actually biting you might not be a bad idea. That bite could be seen as kinky homosexual foreplay, and I know that homosexuality is a capital offense in Iran. Also, has Disney ever made a movie about going to the Moon? Universal made Apollo 13, but even that was a story about failing to go to the moon.

The question isn't whether we can establish a moon base, that concept has been firmly proven, but why would you want to live there? Besides bragging right to say that you've been there I can only imagine life on the moon being 100 times worse than life on a submarine. It's barren so there's no resources except possibly mineral, you're totally reliant on your structure to survive, you can never go outside and if there's an emergency you're pretty much screwed because help would be days if not weeks away. Even an hard core scientist would get sick of it after a while, so I can't imagine anyone wanting to live their whole life there.

No meds need apply me buckoes -- Its a proven fact the further you go south in the USA the less intelligent they become -- most of you pratts who Barnum would love must live below the Mason dixon line. Take it from a 40 year professor in astronomy no one has been through the Davis belt ---all the evidence is on the net do a little googalin in your past time and see how they paid of Russia to keep quiet. A cow didn't jump over it either incase you believe another nursery rhyme -- and a dish ran away with your meds -- You can tell I live away up north --awimowe - ![Hockey Body Check [hockey]](./images/smilies/nhl_crach.gif)

There is water on the moon and if you crack the water you'll have oxygen for breathing and hydrogen for power. Also, living in 1/6 gravity might not be a bad thing especially for older people and people with limited mobility. Frankly, such people would be ideal volunteers for such a mission because the benefits of lunar living to these people would outweigh the hardships.

Pretty expensive to keep firing old folks up there every few years as the ones already there keep dying and can't breed. I would guess a moon colony would have to be for young fit people who can stand the rigors and can breed, since they'd be like our early pioneers and would have to be largely self-sufficient.

They understand part of what a low-gravity environment can do to the human body, but I doubt they know all of it, especially if they leave someone up there for years. Will he/she ever be able to come back to Earth? What will low gravity do to a pregnant woman and her fetus if they decide to breed up there? What would it do to a growing child?
