Everyone here is complaining about the cold. It went down to 13 C last night. We did some star gazing out in the Negev the night before, and it was about O C.

Gunnair Gunnair: raydan raydan: I'd rather have my winter weather... ...sunny and cold enough to freeze your balls off or cloudy and 30 cm of snow. and not that west coast winter weather... ...cloudy and rain or cloudy, windy and a lot of rain or "Sunny! WTF is that???" and even more rain. You'd be surprised how many easterners come out here, spend a winter and hate it because they can't stay warm. Winters here suck! I've known quite a few people who have moved to the Vancouver area from other places in Canada (mostly Ontario & Alberta) who hate their first winter here. True it doesn't get nearly as cold here but the cold we get is a very wet cold which is totally different from a dry cold. They especially hate the snow when we do get some, heavy and wet rather than powdery. martin14 martin14: But the West winters are just soooooooooooooo .. depressing. Yes, yes they are. That's why so many Canuck fans are so obsessive . It's what keeps some people going.

Hmm. Shovelling sidewalks and driveways, scraping windows, block, battery heaters and remote starters, slipping every third step for 6 months, lumps of ice worse than potholes wrecking your suspension, two sets of tires for every vehicle. Kids whining wanting $10,000 snowmobiles and the jerks on the nasty things rasping away at 4 am all winter. Chopping wood and splinters everywhere trying to cut that $500 month heating bill. Lugging your shopping plus a parka and snowboots through the mall. Don't even know the gal who moved next door was Asian until the end of May when the parka comes off.... "But it's a wet cold.." Bite me! If the houses weren't priced so ridiculous, I'd be back in a flash.

Nope... I love my winter like the other seasons.
When I hear people complain, I ask them what they do outside during the winter, the usual answer is "nothing" and that's the problem. I ski, snow-shoe, toboggan with the grandkids, shovel, walk, run and carry my camera everywhere.
I would never move to where it's summer all year long... NEVER!

Believe it or not Vancouver isn't THAT rainy. Vancouver, on average, has the same level of precipitation as Quebec City. The other factor in the Lower Mainland is how far you live away from the North Shore Mountains. Its a well known fact Delta and Richmond receive 30% less rain than the City of Vancouver. I know there is many days its raining where I live at UBC (Point Grey/Kits) and I'll go visit my parents in Richmond and its sunny. North and West Vancouver get the worst of it.
But yes, it appears we've entered the rainy season. Every day of 2012 thus far has been miserable. Rain, wind, rain, wind, etc.
However, I found November and December quite nice here compared to last year. It was surprisingly sunny and only a few days of rain. The start to January has been miserable, but I guess we have to suffer some form of winter! And as a semi-Easterner (from Manitoba) I firmly take West Coast winters over prairie winters. Yes we had lots of sun in the winter, but freezing my ass off going to school every day in in temps that went all the way down to -38 (windchill -48) was brutal. I don't think its get to go below 0 here.

True, but I don't think Quebec gets 20+ days of straight rain like we do here. And it is rather dreary. I spent two winters in Prince George and when I first got there one of my roommates said I'd get tired of snow in a hurry. I told him no way. I'd rather have it a bit colder (mind you, -30c was a bit much) and white than grey and wet all day.

Well, today was much nicer! A little sprinkle in the am but the afternoon has been mostly clear where I am. A little chilly now and I just checked the Weather Network and they are forecasting rain/snow for tomorrow morning.

Well, we get grey here in the mountains too! No snow, no rain, but grey... Foggy, just depressing.

Gales, squalls, sideways rain and once again, no warning from Environment Canada.
