The legal system already costs the taxpayer a kingly sum already. Can you imagine how much you would have to offer a professional juror as salary? Now multiply that by a few hundred people. Even on a contract basis it would still be substantial.

So does that mean 11f means we do not necessarily need civilian jurors?

You have the CHOICE of a trial by jury. If you want your trial handled by judge alone, that's up to you as the defendant. We wouldn't need civilian jurors if no one chose that option, but who would you prefer to decide a case against you: a lawyer or 12 of your peers? I'd take the trail by jury option if it were my ass on the line.

That would depend on the charge. If I was charged with the rape and murder of a child, but was innocent. I would rather have a judge decide my case.

I think I would always want people who know what they are talking about decide my case...
And NOT the next one who just doesn't like my eyes or the colour of my hair...

Yes, I agree. But for most potential charges, I'd rather my fate be decided by a jury.

As difficult as you seem to have with this concept, you are posting on a Canadian forum where the Constitution of the United States means less than sweet fuck all.

No offense (meaning I'm not picking a fight but just making an observation), but how many threads are there on this forum attacking the US Constitution's Second Amendment? Obviously, it means quite a bit given the tens of thousands of posts on the subject.

I don't think Canadians attack the 2nd amendment, Bart. We're just mystified by how you Yanks have misinterpreted it.

I'll never take you seriously again unless you can provide links to all "tens of thousands of posts on the subject".

I would submit that most of the ire about the 2nd amendment comes in when its brought into the Canadian gun debate or when Americans intrude upon the Canadian gun debate and say we're just plain wrong (then cite the 2nd amendment for all that's worth)

(I'm not trying to pick a fight either) [B-o]

Kinda like posting to the Free Republic and shaking a finger at those supporting the 2nd amendment while citing the LGR.

I never attack the 2nd amendment.
Just curious how "entitling" the poor to own guns, then increasing their numbers and making life worse removing jobs and benefits while mocking them turns out.
Czar Nicholas wasn't that insane.
Relying on 100 years of scaring them about the Communist bogeyman to work?

In any case I would rely on legal counsel, they know what the judges are like and how the juries are likely to respond.
