Freakinoldguy Freakinoldguy:
He was responsible for the Football team and program.

It was the alleged pervert Sandusky's charitable foundation that was the source of recruitment for these kids and just because Sandusky worked for Paterno doesn't mean that Paterno was ultimately responsible.

If that was the case, it'd be the same as saying the Minister of National Defense and the CDS were responsible for Colonel Williams acts.

Either way there are alot of people willing to throw him to the wolves just to make sure they're failings aren't brought to light.

I tend to agree with you. I read through your link and all I can say is that Paterno did what he had to and his superiors failed to do their jobs. Also, after Sandusky was gone, the abuse continued, and Paterno was not even close to Sandusky.

Released on 100K bail, REALLY???

Their excuse for firing Paterno was. "Paterno is Penn State". 8O So the 82 year old guy who coached your football team since 1966 is actually running your university?

Bullshit, this is just more crap being piled on by his superiors to deflect the blame from where it should squarely rest. On their shoulders.

Like I said before. The students aren't stupid and they know whats going on and aren't to happy about it, hence the protests and ultimately the mini riot.

Joe Paterno is becomming the fall guy for the whole guilt ridden University and it isn't right. Maybe he should have done more but, to put him out there as a meat shield just to protect their own reputations is reprehensible.

It's more like it's identical to what the Catholic church goes through. Paterno is equivalent to the popes who knew what was going on but turned their backs on it because they didn't care.

Has Joe Paterno actually been charged or found guilty of anything? If so, then he rightfully deserves to lose his job and potentially go to jail. If not, then this firing reeks of someone trying to cover their ass!

This whole sordid affair could have been stopped 13 years ago had someone done their fucking jobs. Now it's become the blame game. Let's blame the highest profile guy for a possible moral failure and hope nobody notices that we didn't do our jobs let this pervert walk.

$1:
1998 – Victim 6 is taken into the locker rooms and showers when he is 11 years old. When Victim 6 is dropped off at home, his hair is wet from showering with Sandusky. His mother reports the incident to the university police, who investigate.

Detective Ronald Schreffler testifies that he and State College Police Department Detective Ralph Ralston, with the consent of the mother of Victim 6, eavesdrop on two conversations the mother of Victim 6 has with Sandusky. Sandusky says he has showered with other boys and Victim 6's mother tries to make Sandusky promise never to shower with a boy again but he will not. At the end of the second conversation, after Sandusky is told he cannot see Victim 6 anymore, Schreffler testifies Sandusky says, "I understand. I was wrong. I wish I could get forgiveness. I know I won't get it from you. I wish I were dead."

Jerry Lauro, an investigator with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, testifies he and Schreffler interviewed Sandusky, and that Sandusky admits showering naked with Victim 6, admits to hugging Victim 6 while in the shower and admits that it was wrong.

The case is closed after then-Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar decides there will be no criminal charge.

It isn't "is" someone covering their ass, it's who else is covering their asses but Joe Paterno's getting crucified for reporting it to people who didn't do a fekin thing.

Freakinoldguy Freakinoldguy:
Gotta a link?

I googled it and came up blank.

Yeah, I can't find one either. It was reported on TV (CP24-Toronto). It sounded like more than speculation at the time but now I'm wondering also.

All that I have heard and read says that Joe P. went to the President of the University and let him know what was going on. Then nothing else Joe did nothing nor did the President of the University. Joe P. had a moral and legal obligation to go to the police on this matter, he never did. That is where Joe P. failed the University, the players, his self and more then any the VICTIMS! Every person who knew of this slimes activities had an obligation to go to the police and inform them. None of them did. Some even had legal obligations to do so. They failed in their obligations and were let go for that reason.

The legal bases is from the title IX statutes that have come up over the years with court case after court case saying that a University, its administrators and staff MUST report all sexual crimes to the police, not just campus police but city and or state police.

This all starts with Mike McQueary - he witnessed the sodomizing of a 10 yr old and didn't step in and stop it right there. And he didn't go to the cops. Yet this guy is still working for Penn State. How can he live with himself?

Yeah he's on admin leave (or something like that) getting paid. Hell he almost got to coach today's game as the interim head coach. The entire staff needs to be let go IMO.

I think he had a duty to protect and should be charged. As should everybody he told about it.

Every goddamn one of the people involved in this situation are responsible for the ensuing cover-up!
Starting with McQuery who witnessed the attack, and only told Paterno then buried his head in the sand, whilst continuing on without any further follow-up or reporting to law agency when it was obvious that the uni officials were just covering it up, to every last person who had the slightest inkling about this tragic situation. Prison, and lawsuits SHOULD be in the future of every last one of these equally guilty SCUM!

Good Samaritan laws are a nice idea but they don't work. They're just another attempt to legislate morality in an already over-legislated society. Whether we're talking prostitution or prohibition or, in this case, reporting crime, the result is the same. You can legislate the behaviour, attempt to punish the behaviour, but in the end, you don't change the conduct. Attempts to deal with it, therefore, in the courts of law, are a waste of time and resources.

These douchebags will be judged in the court of public opinion and our outrage at their morally bankrupt behaviour will be their punishment. Paterno's legacy of 61 years as a football coach? GONE. These fuckers will never be employed again ANYWHERE. They'll have to uproot their families to Buttfuck, Idaho and live out their lives in shame.

These guys had a duty of care, they weren't just passers by, nor did this abuse take place off campus. They should be prosectued. It's not about being a good Samaritan.
