I'm torn both ways on this. While it would be nice to make it a statutory holiday I feel most would quickly forget why it is a holiday. :(

I think it is sad that it isn't already.

Sure you're going to have some people who just look it as a day off, but that's true for every holiday - how many people here celebrate Queen Victoria (or the royalty) for that matter in May?

We used to have November 11 as a statutory holiday in Ontario but it was changed 20-some years ago. We decided that it was better to have kids in school, getting a planned and organized Remembrance Day program, instead of letting them run the streets for a day off. So, Bart, the reason it's not a stat holiday in Ontario is BECAUSE teachers care about Remembrance Day and model that reverence for our military history and the sacrifices of our veterans. But slag on...


A timely reminder that we are all in this. There are no groups outside the memory or the sacrifices.
