I just think the beaver needs an image upgrade is all. Like maybe have the national symbol be an angry beaver...

The Beaver is a hard working animal, it says about the animal that size doesn´t always matter.

Stick with the beaver. It's the only animal that can change the face of the earth.

'Sides, the Polar bear is more of an Arctic symbol, and it ain't like Canada owns the entire Arctic.

Beaver is a fine symbol. Hard Working, Constructive, able to adapt to harsh conditions. All noble traits.

The Polar Bear, OTOH, is at risk of extinction if the ice melts. WTF kinda weakass shit is that?

This idea is pure envy. Envy for Power, wanting to rise to the past levels of GB, USSR, and the USA. Screw that, that kind of power burns brightly for awhile, then fades leaving only stories of past glory and a mountain of problems that keep coming back to haunt. Aspiring for such things shows a lack of independent thought and a complete failure to learn from History.

We should follow our own path, not the fail path of others.

My big problem with the polar bear is that the bear is the national animal of Russia. The beaver might be a big rat with big teeth put it was his pelt that was traded to Europe that was the beginning of our country. Long live the Beaver ! He might be annoying when he his around but we love it nonetheless

The "Russian" bear is the Brown bear (Ursus arctos)which is a different species from the Polar bear (Ursus maritimus). Both are native to Northern Eurasia and North America, so there should be no problem for Canada to have the Polar bear while the Russians have the Brown. My opinion though is to keep the beaver, it's served us well as our National emblem since 1975 and has long been associated with Canada since the early days of the Hudson's Bay Company, so why change it now.
