Agreed but give the decision making entirely over to the military and just give them a budget to stay on.

Yep. Then we let the politicians work on the offset negotiations with the manufacturer.

The problem with letting that happen is the Air Force will ask for the Cadillac and get pissed off when they get the Ford Exploder.

Not necessarily. After a lengthy, and extensive field trial period of all the competiting jets, the Air Force would then choose the top two aircrafts they want to have. And it would from those two shortlisted that the politicians would commence the proccess of negotiating prices, offsets, ToT (Transfer of Technology), manufacturing, and all that fun business/political stuff. Which ever of the two has the best package will be determined the winner.

At least they won't be stuck with a smart car when they need a Humvee.

No, the military bought the LSVW when it needed a Humvee. A smart car is a big step up (more horsepower, for example).

No one in the military would have bought that piece of shit (LSVW) if they had a choice.

Apprarently the F35's also eat kittens and can't fly on weekends. Note the supposed Lockheed 'source' isn't named.

Lets face it, the Canadian media hate Harper and hate the F35. They look for the slightest negative story on both. People stopped believing them on Harper but the F35 has a few more miles on it yet.

The civil servant who actually signed the agreement, and was responsible for the process, was interviewed on CBC a couple of nights ago right after Fantino gave his version. He did not go so far as to say that Fantino and the Conservatives were lying about the process but he said Fantino was wrong.

The method is for the military to provide the requirements to the bureaucracy which then draws up the specifications and puts it out for bids. In this case, there was no competitive comparison or bidding. There was no commitment. There was an agreement that Canadian industry would get work out of it in return for helping the success.

Something like that. I have become so inured to the repetitive lying of this administration and its designated spokespersons that I don't really give full attention to these matters.
