Occupy Wall Street can't be co-opted by the Democrats.

Sullies the entire nature of the protest. They are more likely to be co-opted by more extreme leftist groups that more closely match the protestors motives.

Unlike for the Tea Party, it would be near political suicide to actually be in solidarity with the protestors as a Democrat.

Why would they want to bite the corporate hand that gives them their seat?


Why? The elements of these protests make up a chunk of the Democrat's base. You think students, environmental groups, and the shitload of other leftist groups in these protests aren't supporting the Democrats? Certainly it won't be many, but most likely the ones who are secure in their ridings. It's pretty naive to think this is purely grassroots however.

Some of the Democratic politicians that have showed up have been throughly booed and chased away too, which is a good indication of the level of disgust the protestors have for any corporate-owned politicians. Good on them too for that because there's a lot of Democrats who are as big a part of the problem as the Republican party is.
