DanSC DanSC:
Of all the oil Americans use, <10% comes from Saudi Arabia. Switching semi trucks to natural gas and small cars to diesel would put a huge dent in that.

Oh, but that's a whole different question. So far your country, nor mine has shown much willingness to reduce. We're all addicted to the stuff.

Just slap a high tax on gas, let the market sort out the best way to conserve and use the extra money toward, I don't know, the deficit maybe.

Tax is already high on gas.

Make it higher until people start reducing enough to eliminate Saudi Oil.

I'm all for a slightly higher gas tax (just look at the roads), but taxing a product is interfering with a free market though price inflation, not letting the market find a solution.

Motor fuel isn't exactly a "optional" commodity for most people or businesses.

I need to buy a certain number of litres a month. Whether the price is $1.39 a litre, $1.89 a litre, or $5.00 a litre I still need that number of litres.

I'm all for $5.00 a litre gas, as long as the government stops collecting income tax from me to even it out. :D

The market has found a solution. Find the cheapest sources - that includes Saudi oil. And the market has found that propane semis and diesel cars aren't selling in the US. You want to change the market, that's what the tax system is for. Works better than regulations, often.

I thank Canada seems to be in the forefront of alternative fuel development. We are developing biofuels, many buses here in Saskatoon have been converted from diesel to diesel/electric hybrids. Sure we have enough oil to last us for centuries but we are also developing alternatives to that oil. There will always be a demand for oil in one form or another but we are making strides in reducing the actual gasoline consumption so, eventually, we may no longer be so reliant on it.

More likely natural gas. Natural gas powered buses are pretty common anymore.

It's a Religion of Peace, don't you know? I'm sure she'll be lashed painlessly and peacefully.

It was developed by a non-profit started by Ezra Levant (based on arguments in his book Ethical Oil) and seeks donations to run the ads on TV.

Yea, but you'd think all that would take is a phone call to Shell or Syncrude.
