He's expressed them as the Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall, involving land stewardship, sustainable development, community planning, the preservation of historical buildings and human rights. Until he's crowned King, if ever, he's still entitled to express his own views. Snubbing Jiang Zemin, because he refused to dine with dictators was the clincher.

Brenda Brenda: ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog: from everything that I've read about him he's a man of principle who has fairly strong opinions and has been very hands on in running his own lands. A Monarch is not supposed to have an opinion. That's not what he is there for. He is there to represent the country, not to vent his own opinions. Why not? Their opinions on how things should be done is why we give them the job.

They do not rule it, nor run it, that is what the government is for, which we elect.

When he is King, not so much anymore. I doubt he can do that. Just because he is first in line of the Throne, doesn't mean he can say or do whatever he wants. Look at the Crown Prince of Belgium.

I think it was more of just something that was not enforced, and now it will be.

Who other than Charles has applied? Queen Elizabeth is Queen of Canada because Parlimant delcared it so. Nothing said we were required to. (see my next post)

If he feels the people would not accept him as King, I believe he will abdicate in favour of William. And the Monarchy does not represent the country, they represent the State. Subtle difference, but an important one.

Subtle difference, but an important one. Fair enough.

DrCaleb DrCaleb: Queen Elizabeth is Queen of Canada because Parlimant delcared it so. So, out of all of Parliament's options, they're choosing Charles, who isn't even Canadian?

Brenda Brenda: raydan raydan: I wonder if everybody will still think the same when we start seeing portraits of King Charles. Yep. I am not a fan of his, but once he becomes head of state, we will have to respect him and his position. You're welcome to. The rest of us will then work in earnest to have an elected GG designated Head of State (which the GG is already in fact, if not on paper) and reduce him to just a face on Commonwealth coins. Which will have to be oval shaped to accommodate his Mickey Mouse ears.
