commanderkai commanderkai:
Um...milking your late leader for as many political points as possible will backfire. Horribly. It's one thing saying something like. "My mentor/inspiration Jack Layton once said blah blah blah blah, and I believe in his vision" but it's nothing to STILL plaster his face on posters, four years after his death. They might as well just bring Layton's corpse out and put it on tour, for the amount of taste it has.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... smells like Lenin, don't it ? Maybe running a dead man is the only thing a dead party can do.

commanderkai commanderkai: eureka eureka: I suspect that some of this will stick if only because it has started many thinking about the NDP favourably who had, until now, bought the Conservative and Liberal lines that the vote would be wasted. And that Socialism was dangerous and destructive. Listen, as much as the NDP made great strides, they made them in the province that is probably more socialist than the rest of Canada; Quebec. Unless, somehow, the NDP can achieve a miracle by making their federal platform not sound batshit stupid like the provincial NDP platform for current Ontario election, it'll be quite difficult This may lead to actual debate! What is it that you find "batship stupid" about their platforms. I disagree with some of the federal ideas of the NDP, incidentally but I don't find them to be "batship stupid."

Though a Batship does sound like an innovative new weapons platform. Anyway, you can find them to be insightful or not, I don't know, nor care. Seemingly your whole concept of the Canadian people suddenly awakening to how "Socialism is not dangerous and destructive" isn't all that true, considering Quebec; the most socialist province in Canada, was the big shift in the election, with the rest of Canada having very little gains for the NDP.

I am curious to know what these "platforms" are. Who knows, I might even agree!
However, since both have taken any real socialism out of their "platforms," then it might be difficult to finf fault on that score.

Batshit crazy. Last time i checked, socialism was still in NDP platforms. In fact, as any one even minutely aware of Canadian political history will tell you, it's been here in some form or another, for years. Shhh...don't tell anyone.

This happens anytime someone "famous" dies. Everyone has nothing but good things to say about the person immediately after they die, even people who despised the individual. After a short interlude things go back to normal. In 2015 most voters would be inclined to ask "Jack who?"
