How about we do like they do in advertising:

Spray paint "New and Improved Canadian Air Force" on our fighter jets.

That'll scare those Taliban just as much as "Royal Canadian Air Force".

What a waste of money.

I'm torn on the issue personally.

It strikes me more as a PR move more than anything else. However, my dad served in the RCAF and was very angry at unificiation - I know he would have loved to see this.

Still as The National Post said on Tuesday (see below), it's okay to change the names as long as it isn't used as rationale to rebuild the military and forestall major programs (supply ships, destroyers, fighters, etc) - which is what I fear.

Sadly, Harper (like the Liberals before him) has learned since 2006 that big defence promises don't turn into votes, so he's slowly scaled back/cancelled/delayed program after program.

I don't mind the monarchy, I think it is cute and I admire the history. But I'm not painting "Royal" on my motorcycle (moped whatever ) just because I think Kate is a hot little princess.

So why are my tax dollars going to make this adjustment when we have a bazillion other things like the debt and the deficit to worry about. Isn't Harper handing our pink slips left and right, firing scientists, abandoning programs that help our people right here at home.

Christ, invest it in better equipment for the troops or rebuild some of the bridges and tunnels in Quebec. I'm just saying why now, what is the point, it is not like we have extra cash sitting around to spend on whatever pet projects come along.

I actually submitted a quote to do the work you suggested. $875.00 was the charge. Some company in Miramichi got the contract. $11,874,000.

That is a good point.

Profit before the safety and well being of human beings has been the cornerstone of democracy for the last 200 years or so.

Mind you lately those doing the endangering have often been taken to task financially. I'm sure the guys making the money are going to stick around once asbestos is completely outlawed and spend their profits cleaning it up.
