Wait until the kid is convicted, then kick him out, not her. Unless she wants to go with him.

Were he a minor i'd agree with evicting the family as a whole, but since he is legally an adult overwhich his mother has no 'real' control, either leave her or move her into a smaller unit. while barring him from the property. Then again, they are likely afraid she'll allow him to stay despite being barred/banned.

If it was a private rental agreement, age of majority ideas might be applicable.

However, she is living on government property, signed an agreement which is quite clear.

It's a whole different ball game with Council properties.

What is wrong with Britain, and to some extent Canada ?

Right here, folks.

$1:
'I'm not responsible for my son's actions - what about my human rights?' says Daniel Sartain-Clarke's mother

Oh, but this isn't important, and it doesn't apply anyway, cuz I'm so special:

$1:
Under housing rules his mother as the tenant can be evicted from their two-bedroom flat in Battersea if anyone living there is involved in criminality.

Kudos to Wandsworth council, only one thing concerns me.

The kid pled not guilty, tbh the Council should wait for the conviction.

At the end of the article..

$1:
Earlier this week a petition calling for the thieves to lose all their welfare handouts became the first to be passed to Parliament under a new scheme.

It gathered more than 100,000 signatures the threshold to trigger a Commons debate. The petition received so much web traffic that it crashed under the strain.

A small beginning, maybe it will help Cameron move things along.

I think you mean, "What is wrong with people these days?" because quite frankly, this is not representative of all Canadians or Britons, only the vocal fucktards that get media time.

Canada is a Liberal democracy, but frankly, I'm a little fed up that everyone equates Canada to some massive panderer to the chronically irresponsible ( which some also suggests is the vast majority of our population - they are not.) We saw, in Vancouver, examples of both, and frankly, Briton is doing what Canada should have done - and that's take these fuck faced looters to task - at every level!

If they think they can punish people out of being angry with their society they have a lot to learn. While I agree with punishing criminals, I don’t agree with punishing a family who’s CHILD commits a crime regardless of what is “allowed” under the law.

What everyone seems to be forgetting here is that society creates it’s lowest class and their default actions. Put people out of work, pack on the debt load, stick them in public housing they have no chance of ever climbing out of (especially now that Britain adopted the US\Canadian style University system) and what do you think is going to happen? You can’t expect human beings to be content just getting by and being demeaned by living off of government handouts. Something is terribly broken in their economy. All the normal labour jobs that go to people who enjoy working with their hands have been outsourced. And the liberal elite and judgmental right all look at them like they should suck it up and become white collar workers. Well news flash, not everyone is cut out for a cubicle job. And not everyone is content making minimum wage at McDonalds for the rest of eternity.

The social safety net can’t be prison.

If they are serious about fixing this problem they need to look HARD at the economy they and the rest of the world have been creating the past 30 years. Social mobility needs to be increased, not welfare payments or jail terms. Trade tariffs and unions need to be strengthened to protect us from competing with third world labour forces willing to work for 3$ a day, in countries that have no environmental protection laws.

I could rant all day and I am sure this will garner it’s fair share of flamers on this board. The point is you reap what you sow. Give a group of people nothing to lose and hopelessness and this is the result…

She is right, the kid is 18. She is not responsible anymore.

He's living in her home so, like it or not, she is.

So if you have a houseguest over and he happens to join the local riot, you should be responsible?
What if your wife kills a stranger? You responsible for her actions too?
