The USA is saying we only have claims

Anyone who says anyone is attempting to take anything that is Canada's is making claims.
This is all political posturing to establish international maritime/fishing/mineral rights boundaries. The most serious point is the USA's refusal to recognize the NWP as internal waters and the Yukon-Alaska sea boundary.

Russia like a busy little beaver is working toward a successful NorthEast Passage. They are years ahead of us in the race for the north. When they have succeeded they may see benefits to helping us develope our north as well. If they are successful then good on 'em.

For all the predictable bluster here at being criticized, remind yourselves that he's right.

Canada has shown itself to be a paper tiger with respect to the arctic. Slush breakers not even on the drawing boards, a single ice breaker, and a naval base many many years away.

I'd disagree that Canada is too small, but I'd submit we lack the political will to adequately expend capital to defend our claims.
