Meanwhile, doctors on Sunday said the shooter may have used special bullets that explode inside the body during the shooting rampage at an island retreat.

The chief surgeon treating many of the shooting victims said it is his belief that the shooter used bullets that explode inside victims and cause massive internal injuries.

Dr. Colin Poole of Ringriket Hospital in Honefoss, northwest of Oslo, said surgeons who have treated a total of 16 victims have failed to recover bullets.

"These bullets more or less exploded inside the body," Poole told The Associated Press. "It's caused us all kinds of extra problems in dealing with the wounds they cause, with very strange trajectories."

The bullets are lighter and can be fired over longer distances with better accuracy, according to ballistics experts quoted by AP. Hunters of smaller animals, as well as air marshals, most commonly use the bullets.

There are so many things wrong with that, I don't know where to begin.

There are rounds called 'frangable' that disintetigrate on impact, but they are not 'explosive'. Air marshalls would carry them. But they are not used by hunters. Perhaps that's what the crack heads err editors mean. They are meant to do a lot of damage to flesh, but they are not optimal for distance shooting.

They fit parts of that description, but not others. I think they have their facts wrong.

What's frightening me is that most of the time, when the media are talking talks about a 'specialized' topic that I know much about, they are 1) inexact or 2) plain wrong. Just imagine about the misguiding for things people DON'T know about (which is the majority of people).

I think blaming the media for "such extremes" is a bit extreme.

It's the general political undercurrent in western civilization going on right now. The clash of civilizations, the unemployment, the history of people not getting along, history of white/black/islamic supremacism.

I hate to disagree with you doc, but frangible bullets are made to disintegrate only on contact with materials harder than the bullet itself. They are used by varmint hunters and for fur bearing critters where you don't want to damage the pelt with an exit wound. The bullet will penetrate the hide before breaking up into smaller pieces, stopping further penetration. As for Air marshals and HRTs what they are using is a subsonic, jacketed hollow point round in both pistols and submachine guns, upon entry the bullet mushrooms which slows it down and transfers all it's energy into the target itself while the slower moving subsonic bullet helps keep down through and through wounds and greatly reduces the chance of ricochets. There is somewhat of a trade off there though as the speed of the bullet has a great deal to do with the amount of expansion the bullet achieves upon entry.

Corrected for accuracy. All of the kids were at the camp for political training as members of the Worker's Youth League arm of the Norwegian Labour Party.

I think it's more about the lack of morals and philosophical bases that the western civilization is experiencing than a political undercurrent.
