Choban Choban:

and maybe its his own odd way of protesting Muslim/Sikh head gear

It's his way of showing how bending to every group and special interest for no reason other than personal preference is ridiculous.

Fixed, because I agree with it.
That's how Pastafarianism appeared in the first place.
A guy was upset that his local high school was going to put creationism side-by-side with the theory of evolution in science classes, so he asked that his religion be given equal time, since it was just as valid.
And then he wove the whole "creation by drunken flying spaghetti monster" story, making sure to shut tight some of the most blatant failures of the myth of creation as told in the bible.
Pretty hilarious.

DrCaleb DrCaleb:
Brenda Brenda:
I didn't realize pastafarianism was an officially recognized religion in Austria.

Why does it need to be 'recognized' to be 'official'? (Bless his noodly appendage)

The FSM was created as a statement towards the Political Correctness that people use to hobble others.

Because the institution that gives out the drivers licenses is a government organization, and a drivers license is a form of ID.

I take it it is no problem for me to wear anything on my head then, as long as my face is completely visible. At least I do not have to make up some bullshit religion, that imo insults the existence of any other religion, to get my way.

There is a long history of the seperation between church and state, hence the nature of my question. Why does a religion become only official if a government says it is? Why is 'religious headgear' limited only to religions recognized by the state? That is the absurdity. If it's not covering your face, who cares?

And religions tend to insult themselves. Pointing that out simply lets the Emperor know he's standing there naked.

How many more stories like these do need every day before we realize that extending special freedoms only to religious people is a bad idea.

But Shepherd is right--how you can apply for religious freedom when you're a "self-confessed atheist." Faith in the FSM is not atheism.

I think, since the odds of having freedom of religion removed from our Consitution are quite low, we should have pastafarianism recognized as an offical religion in Canada.

I'll take the church of beer every time. You can wear a lampshade on your head in that one. (Maybe a Devo one so it doesn't obscure the face.)

It's always bugged me that the Supremes can pontificate and ponder about what is a genuinely held belief and confer valid religion status based on same. Who are they to tell me what I believe?

What he needs is a Trotters' Crash Turban, as invented by Derek "Del Boy" Trotter and modelled by his bemused younger brother Rodney in a 1996 episode of the classic British comedy series Only Fools and Horses.
