What makes sports fans riot? Alcohol, stupidity and any combination thereof.

ppats1 ppats1: How is that bullshit? Really, Brenda, there ARE still people out there that actually participate in their kid's lives and take a second or two to talk to them. I'm a single dad raising two girls, one a teen, it ain't been all roses I can assure you but, I've raised them the way I was. No luck involved, just work.
What I am trying to say is this: Good parents don't necessarily make good children, and bad parents don't necessarily make bad kids.

DanSC DanSC: Here's one problem The number of women who would be turned on by riots is statistically irrelevant, but if even one is, drunk bros will burn and loot. She wasn't turned on, she was injured during the riot and that's her boyfriend comforting her. $1: "They were between the riot police and the rioters, and the riot police were actually charging forward, and Alex got knocked by a [police] shield and fell to the ground," Brett Jones told CBC News. "[Scott] was comforting her and gave her a kiss to say, 'It's going to be OK,' and the photographer just took the shot at that moment." http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puc ... nhl-wp7436

Yep. But there were plenty of chickies cheering on (in some cases participating) the violence.

I did not know the back story, so I'll go with picture B. Once a drunk bro connects flipping cars with seeing boobs, it's all over.

What I am trying to say is this: Good parents don't necessarily make good children, and bad parents don't necessarily make bad kids. Agreed. But the odds of good parents having good kids is a lot higher than for bad parents.

The "bad apples" are really just the few who spark to the tinder-box. Once the atmosphere is created, "average" people, who normally consider themselves to be good citizens, start joining in, due to booze, mob mentality and emotions. When people are part of a large group, they feel anonymous and immune to direct scrutiny. Add alcohol and people who are way too emotionally invested in A GAME, all it takes is a small handful of rowdies to set off a much larger group of people.

If you're burning cars or looting stores, you're a bad apple, not a victim of them. As far as I'm concerned, if you're cheering that type of activity you're a bad apple, even if not directly involved.
The Hockey game had nothing to do with it. Except that because they lost, the normal people who would have stayed and celebrated went home, and the dickhead ratio of the crowd increased dramatically.
People were wearing T shirts before the game reading "I'm going to the riot." They were just waiting for the opportunity, while the cops had been lulled to sleep.

Agreed, because there will always be intangibles involved, but I would would bet kids raised with a guiding hand are less likely to succumb to peer pressure (mob, group mentality) than those without.

Brenda Brenda: Good parents don't necessarily make good children, and bad parents don't necessarily make bad kids. I'd agree. I grew up a pro-American, law-abiding conservative despite the best efforts of my Kennedy liberal, socialist parents. ![Drink up [B-o]](./images/smilies/drinkup.gif)

Ya but what im sayin is that alot of the ppl who committed crimes weren't "bad apples" with prior criminalo records or had prior criminal intent. That's how mob behaviour works. A handful of shepards and a whole lot of sheep.

A handful of shepards and a whole lot of sheep. Absolutely - most people weren't instigators but got caught up in it. But a lot of them went there hoping something would happen, so they could take pics of themselves and brag about it. They're too stupid to see what idiots they really are, but now that public opinion has turned against them they'll try to pretend they were never involved. And they were willing sheep, it's not that they couldn't help it. So they should suffer the consequences.
