Well, here's some of their numbers:
In 2009, US consumption was 18,771,000br/day and US production was 7,270,000br/day. For 2010, consumption was 19,100,000br/day. I couldn't find a definitive number from the US Energy Information Administration on 2010 production, but if your article is correct, then that number must be at least half of consumption, which means production must have been at least 9,550,000br/day. Production was 5,648,000 for the week of May 13, 2011 and 5,583,000br/day for the week of May 20, 2011. So, unless domestic consumption has fallen from 19M br/day last year to something like 11M br/day currently, then production is currently WELL below 50% of consumption. Conclusion: 2010 was a blip, not a trend.
