Jailing gays was pretty much the norm in the US and Canada up until the 1970's.
And that point was actually very tolerant and open minded given that simply being gay will get one a beheading or a hanging in progressive places like Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Chad, Niger, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Dubai, Yemen...anyone see a pattern here yet?

Sure, they're all dictatorships or monarchies.

xerxes xerxes: Sure, they're all dictatorships or monarchies. I think the real point of Bart's entirely pointless post is that we're not allowed to be bothered by the christian(barely) hatemongers in our midst because the muslim ones elsewhere are worse. By the same token I'd say Bart should quit complaining about the deficit in america because things are much worse in the PIGS countries.

Sort of. I guess I'm simply wondering at the attention given to someone who uttered an opinion that, in my lifetime, was not only accepted but it was the law. In the meantime, there's plenty of places in the world where people are being killed - not just jailed - and where's the outrage over that?

In that case, pardon me. Forgive me for assuming that America should be the moral light of the world when it comes to freedom and justice. I'll be sure not to do so in the future.

Funny seeing you go on about morality in the context that you're being a champion of the right of men to bugger each other. Orwell was right.

Better to clean up the junk in our own yard before asking the neighbor to clean his up.

Sadly, freedom of speech seems to include freedom to hate.

Big difference though between letting some hatemonger freely rant on the steps of the state house and inviting him in to do a prayer on behalf of the entire assembly.
The good part about all of this is that with more ignorant stunts like this one the GOP just keeps isolating itself more and more into an aging and paranoid demographic that's disappearing. Their credibility among the non-insane diminishes more with each passing day.

And as long it's consensual I don't care. And neither should anyone else. What would Orwell have to say about that?

I don't care, or mind, that men do bugger each other. Do you?

What is a-moral about 2 people loving each other? Same sex or not? May I remind people that 2 women loving each other are gay too? Ohhhhhh!!! The lesbian porn you love to watch is ok?? Shit, I'm sorry, you still hope to join! But that is not a-moral. Ok.
