andyt andyt: Brenda Brenda: Arnie slept with 13 women during his marriage with Maria Shriver, yet no one cares. Why?
Because that's not illegal. This IMF bozo probably also cheated on his wife, since it seems to be the done thing for French officials. Nobody's charging him for that. No, but the "he's a dirty old man" comes from somewhere. I never said he was charged for being a dirty old man, I am saying that "people" have already convicted him tho.

BartSimpson BartSimpson: Americans are hypersensitive about being touched and, consequently, get all huffy around foreigners who don't freak out because someone hugged them, patted them on the shoulder, or kissed them on the cheek.
There's no end of Americans who are dealing with psychological issues from being touch-deprived and whose course of treatment, IMHO, should include a trip to Spain or Italy. Just send them here to visit my family... either they'll run away screaming as soon as they meet them, or they'll be hugging everybody within reach in 2 weeks.

the old 'burst naked out of the bathroom and chase her down' technique. some things are better left in the 50's, to be sure.

Brenda Brenda: DanSC DanSC: Brenda Brenda: So if I sued him for sexual harassment, he would by definition be guilty? (I would like to make VERY clear, that I have never met the man, and that I do not intent to sue anyone.) Of course not. Being a dirty old man isn't illegal, but acting out on those dirty thoughts is. You would need evidence to convict, but no one should be surprised when sexual harassment charges are brought against dirty old men. It seems to me that "people" have convicted the IMF bozo already, and that just doesn't seem fair to me... Arnie slept with 13 women during his marriage with Maria Shriver, yet no one cares. Why? Same reason no one cares about Bill Clinton's adultery. Adultery isn't sexual assault.

Brenda Brenda: The sexual assault thing is not proven yet. Why is he guilty already? i'm not positive Brenda, but i think the maid may have ingested enough dna to give further credibility to the bruises. ..it was just announced that he has been denied bail....

Only (imo) because he is rich enough to pay the bail and go back to France. The USA do not want another Roman Polanski-like case, especially not with a hot shot...

True Bart.
Once again, let me make it completely clear, if he did do something he shouldn't, he should be brought to justice. But like we have seen in that other thread, it wouldn't be the first time someone got framed. Either way, his professional life is ruined. Whether he did it or not.

The UK media seem to think it's all a bit suspect but this guy is well known (according to the Beeb World Service) for being a bit of a sleaze bag with younger women.
I smell something else on the go here. It's all very dramatic.

Personally, I'm one of the 'keep your distance' types except for immediate family(wife, children) and very close friends. Now, the Chinese are a touchy feely lot with people they consider their friends(no, they are not quiet and aloof..they're the exact opposite), but they also live in a society that has no real concept of personal space. Even scowling doesn't seem to deter the huggers here.
