It wants the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to extend the watchdog's examination of Canada's online industry to include foreign services.

Companies such as Corus Entertainment, Rogers Communications (TSX:RCI.B) Astral Media and others all backed the initiative.

Norm Bolen, CEO of the Canadian Movie Production Association, said the goal is not to block any services or keep them out of Canada.

"It's about finding a way to make sure that we find a balance that allows the Canadian system to continue to operate successfully," he said in an interview.

Woh. The way it's being said seems like a quote Wesley Mooch in Atlas Shrugged. 8O

I bet they will force netflicks to become candianized much like they did with satellite radio. Some sort of middle ground that makes no one happy.

That would be awesome because Heartland is pretty much the best show on TV ever. /sarcasm

herbie herbie:
The "old model" doesn't ask someone else to deliver their product for free. Nor does it have millions of out-of-touch so-cheap-they-squeak-if-they-walk customers demanding someone else deliver the product free.

What are you talking about? Seriously.

Do you work for an ISP or something? I assume your little rant is complaining that users have the audacity to actually use their internet connections? Last time I checked you needed to pay the ISP to get on the internet, so who is asking who to deliver what for free?

The second half of your rant is about a company that has managed to drive prices lower for consumers, you are seriously complaining about that? Lower prices are a bad thing, paying those lower prices makes you cheap? I guess I should just pay more for cable because that's how its always been done damnit?

Haha, your comment is so clueless its amazing.

Seriously newbie, if you'd read the forums you'd know I own an ISP.
And I'm not obligated to delver someone else's commercial product for no compensation. Just like I'm not obligated to hook someone to my system who thinks $30 a month is paying for shit.
Netflix is freeloading on the ISPs delivery system. Cable and satellite aren't. That's why it's cheap.

Your compensation is the subscription to your ISP if you are unable to make a successful business because you are unable or unwilling to carry Netflix without charging and fee ans someone else will, then why exactly is this the public's problem?

As for "freeloading" i have no sympathy for 'providers' i will go where the market indicates and i will demand the the cheapest price possible along the way.

I suggest you revamp your business model

We've been through this...

Exactly, and you still don't seem to get it...every experiment in socialism/communism, where each and every member wasn't a willing participant, has failed. Where it has been successful, such as the kibbutz movement or Hutterite colonies, it is still profit driven. Each collective group competes against the other for the betterment of their individual members.

I already have. Dumping the home users who expect a month's business class service for the price of a carwash. Like the dickhead downstairs who thought he was entitled to 50 Gigs a day. Who by the way hasn't worked in two years because he expects a job that pays $30 an hour.

You've delivered commercial products long before Netflix, why is it only a problem now?

Companies like CTV for example have been offering content online, filled with advertisements....as have services like MLB.tv.

Do any of these other services pay you a fee as well?
