Perhaps it's time for us to send the US a big CARE package similar to Haiti. Show them just what good neighbors we really are.

Radio Radio: Lemmy Lemmy: I may go to WalMart for cheap shoes tomorrow. I go to Walmart every month for new cheap shoes. You have to go to Walmart every month for more cheap shoes.

Exactly, so what's the point? You pay as much or more in the end and are walking around in shitty shoes the whole time. Not that my somewhat better shoes aren't made in China too, probably in the same factory as the crap.

DrCaleb DrCaleb: You have to go to Walmart every month for more cheap shoes. No kidding. A decent pair of Doc Marten's can last a decade or more. Far better to do that than to subject yourself to entering a WalMart that reeks of crappy plastics and noxious fast food.

I'm fairly certain by this point that no one in the US government, especially in Congress, has any fucking idea of what they're doing anymore. The only bright spot for Canada, as this is a Democratic proposal, is that there's a possibility the GOP majority in the House might vote it down. And that the Senate, which is not as badly reactionary retarded as the House is, would stop it. And that if it gets to his desk the President will veto it anyway. And that there's the NAFTA tribunal to take it to afterwards, if it does pass, that would probably simply declare it illegal and that Canada would be at least partially reimbursed for whatever tariffs are collected as happened with the softwood lumber debacle. Thanks you very much, system of numerous checks and balances, that sometimes still keeps bad proposals from automatically becoming another fair accompli. Regardless though, just by bringing it forward, it's merely another blunder from disaster to disaster that the American system is slowly killing itself with.

At least they are still made with good heavy leather, and stitched well. I've had them 8 years, and the stitching is just starting to come out. I've had other shoes (Florshiem Imperials) that I wear all the time, and are flawless after 20 years. You get what you deserve if you shop Wallyworld.

I don't see how this is not illegal under NAFTA. The problem with these sorts of tariffs is that they do a lot of damage while the case works it's way thru the appeals process, costs a lot of money that repaying the tariff doesn't cover.
But never mind, let's impose our own export tariff on oil and whatever other resources the US is desperate for.
