Aren't we a cynical bunch! But I reckon we are right.

We are led by selfish, power-hungry idiots as usual.

Yogi Yogi:
People get into politics for three reasons only; prestige, 'easy street' and $$$.

I don't agree. That's no different then saying people only becomes doctors for the money or cops because they like bossing people around or soldiers because they like killing people.

I'd be willing to say most of them really do want to make a difference. Plenty of people out there running even though they know they have no chance of winning. They do so for a variety of reasons and standing for a principal is one of them.

I saw a bit by Chris Rock some years back that was sooo true.
The reason they call it politics. Let's break it down into syllables.
First off is po. Which is exactly what the government wants us to be, po'.
Second is li. Which is all they do, lie to us.
And finally, tics. Blood sucking insects.

Now it all makes sense eh?

Like it PA9!

I used to think that people who said "All politicians are the same" were being overly cynical and were wrong.

After working with politicians I have to agree that they are pretty much all the same and I have met very few that I consider to be ethical or with honour. They are more interested in how they 'look' or are how they perceived in the media than making the tough decisions that need to be made.

I have seen this time and time again. Many senior people in my org are cut from the same cloth.

It’s rare I meet a leader that really impresses.

I met Rick Hillier very briefly. Now there’s a real ethical and charismatic leader. The CF were lucky to have him.

How many of the people you mention, do you suppose, would be involved in these careers if the money was only about 1/3 of what it is???

About the same and retention would be a serious problem. We can sit back and blame the politicians for a system they are a product of rather then a source of.

We all get the governments we deserve and Canada has the politicians it has because the voters keep making it so.

Most politicians are lawyers and could make way more money in the private sector. There are a few for whom politics is about the best career they can have, and they may actually be better politicians - they will listen more to their constituents to remain elected. I guess that latter group includes Stevo.

It's all nice to be cynical about politicians, that it's all their fault, not ours,. that they are somehow a race apart. It's what allows them to keep bullshitting us, because that is exactly what we want. When someone like Joe Clark tells the truth, bada bing, he's outta there.

Unsound Unsound:
This is why I generally vote for the green party. Their hearts are in the riught place and they're not likely to ever be in a position to disappoint me the way almost all politicians generally do.

I think I might vote Green as well. The Cons seem to lack Fiscal Discipline and frankly are at odds with me on too many Social issues. Ignatief maybe Intelligent, but he lacks leadership skills and really comes across as disingenuous/flakey. NDP is a permanent No-go. Greens have no chance and are probably NDP like if they ever get Elected, but their main focus on the Environment is one that is most lacking from official Policy these days.

Despite all the crap and things being far from my preference, I still concede that our System and Government is decently sound on the whole.

Good catch. Seemed wonky to me, Spellcheck seemed satisfied with it hyphenated.
