From what I hear, threatening to walk away (or actually walking away) can usually yield you some concessions. Shaw tried to get me to buy back into Star Choice after I left with little sweetheart deals.

They stopped calling after three or four months, never made me a sweet enough offer.

Threatening to close your account sweetens the deal for pretty much anything, including banks. Personally, if I were a Bell customer, I would not care how much they tried, I would still drop them like a hot rock. I'm glad that there are ISPs like mine who oppose what Bell, Rogers, and their friends at the CRTC are doing.

I'd love to drop Bell, but I have a home and a cottage and the only way I can get TV service in both locations is with Bell. Otherwise I'd have to pay in both locations rather than transporting the receiver. I did threaten to walk when they tried to refuse warranty on my PVR when it died 10 days after the 1 year warranty ran out. They eventually replaced the receiver with a refurbished one, but we'll see what happens when this replacement piece of shit breaks down. Leaving Bell is an idle threat right now, even if they don't know that.
