This popped up on my Facebook today:

"Sarah Palin is feeling unjustly blamed for the actions of an extremist. Maybe she can ask Muslims for advice on how to deal with that."

:lol: . I put the same question to Bart yesterday.

I think Palin really shot herself in the foot this time (if she could shoot straight that is). However fairly or unfairly she was tarred with this, she has done nothing to distance herself from this. Instead, it's the same old narcissistic, "everyone's against me" act she's played since day one. The woman's persecution complex is so severe she's going to end up in the DSM V as a textbook example.

The best quote I read so far today was this:

"Today has been set aside to honor the victims of the Tucson massacre. And Sarah Palin has apparently decided she's one of them," - Josh Marshall.

Why is it that so many right wingers seem to think that actions only have consequences when the action is committed by someone else?

Amen!

I'm just glad for the right wing response that says that perp and only the perp is ever responsible for a crime. That means:

1) No more right-wing protests against a mosque being built three blocks away from Ground Zero;
2) The next time some douche shoots up a high school cafeteria/post office/McDonalds, that Marilyn Manson/Grand Theft Auto/heavy metal/hip-hop will no longer be reflexively blamed;
3) Brent Bozell, who regularly shows up to make the connections in the case of #2 above, is now out of a job;
4) No more invading other countries that really didn't have jack shit to so with 9/11.

Pucker up, you perpertual-victim conservative buttercups. You're not getting off the fucking hook on this one.

If Sarah Palin had a brain she would be more dangerous than she is.
She should see a surgeon and have her mouth wired shut!

Whether you like her or not, she is being blamed unjustly, neither she nor the tea party had any part of it. The rush to judgement has been disgusting, particularly as the left has it's own share of rhetoric. She is owed an apology from a lot of people, especially the New York Times.

$1:
Osler says his friend wasn’t shooting at people, “he was shooting at the world.” Regarding the high-pitched talk radio and cable news political rhetoric, Osler says his friend didn’t even watch the news.

He did not watch TV. He disliked the news. He didn’t listen to political radio. He didn’t take sides. He wasn’t on the left. He wasn’t on the right.

No like likely. She is a big gas bag that has been raking in money by appealing to everybody who is unhappy about Washington. Now that gas bag is going to deflate,
her casting herself as the victim here especially the Blood Libel comment doesn't sit well.

So last night Obama asked both sides to cut out the inflammatory accusations and put it to a rest.

Seems that it was fun the first couple days when the left was swinging away at the right and then the right started swinging back and not apologizing and it wasn't fun anymore.

Palin was correct in the use of the term 'blood libel' and many of the the posts on this site substantiate that usage.

The left has been working itself up into a lather with language that, if said in person, would absolutely result in a throw-down. Thanos, for instance, has the anonymity of the net in which to have his little frenzy of hate, but were he to utter these same comments in some places he'd be eating his meals from a straw for the forseeable future.

In my work place this week I was witness to a virtual orgy of left-wing vitriol and hate. The "Assassinate Palin" game was the low point and management reluctantly intervened and put it to an end.

I had one person utter a quality comment to me:

"I bet you're all sad that the killer got caught, aren't you?"

I invited the person to repeat the comment to me outside at 5:01pm yesterday. He didn't show up. How sad.

So the 'kill Palin' rhetoric has been pretty virulent this week and what, perhaps, got Obama's attention was that a few militia groups have promised retaliation in kind if any harm comes to Sarah Palin or her family.

In sum, you're right kids: Words do have an effect.

So if you want to see some more blood then keep at it.

Me, for once I'll agree with this President and support him when he says it's time to stop this. :idea:

I think Palin had every right to respond to the attacks she endured. The term Blood libel was the wrong tone to take and will only serve to stir up even more vitriol. This was an opportunity missed by her camp though, at a time where the nation needed healing and leadership the message was still about her struggle rather than stepping back from that spotlight if only for a moment to yield the moment for those who passed.

Here's an irony: Seems all of the anti-right rhetoric may help the killer with his legal defense. :idea:

$1:
(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Louis Gohmert, a former prosecutor and judge and a current member of the House Judiciary Committee, is offering some advice to Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, who has gained national attention since Saturday for his suggestions that radio and television talk shows were somehow responsible for the shooting attack in Tucson that took the lives of 6 people and wounded 14 others, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

Says Rep. Gohmert to the sheriff: “Shut up before you do any more damage to the prosecution’s case.”

At the Capitol on Wednesday, Gohmert told CNSNews.com, “As far as advice for the sheriff, you know, he’s an elected official. He’s an American. He’s not prohibited by law from making the ridiculous statements that he has that do more to help the defendant than they do anyone else, including the victims. And so, I know as a former prosecutor, my advice to the sheriff would be to shut up before you do any more damage to the prosecution’s case.”

Yeah, I think the blood libel thing is a bit of an overreaction. I never heard the term before yesterday. I think it's more damaging that Gifford herself commetned on Palin's "crosshairs" poster last year, commetning that there are consequences to the current level of rhetoric. That and her playing the whole victim card and trying to turn it into the liberal media inciting hatred against the right. Given the ceaseless and virulent attacks by Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter adn teh rest of them, the charge is ludicrous.

After the Oklahoma City massacre in 1995, Bill Clinton said, "There is nothing patriotic about hating your government or pretending you can hate your government but love your country."
