Not really. By US law, the command of an aircraft carrier is reserved for a naval aviator. Typically, CAG (Commander Air Group) is the stepping stone to commanding a carrier. But command of a carrier is no guarantee of a bump to Butt Admiral because a carrier captain is typically a fighter jock and fighter jocks tend to do things like this.
