I think this fits perfectly. He's always played hot and cold. He's just trying to get attention and as many concessions as he can. That's my take as well. It's cyclical. It's amazing how blind people are in general to cyclical events, treating them as a whole new thing if the cycle is longer than about three or four years. Actually, in today's ADD society, make that three or four months.
