Don doesn't do anything that doesn't have personal gain. But I agree the troops need more of this kind of thing.

Don actually has a personal agenda to support the troops, or so it seems. So, though there might be a personal gain in popularity by the troops, members of the left will attack him for it so that evens out. Add to that the discomfort and time it takes to go to Kandahar from Canada and back, and I'd say he likely came out a personal negative in the end save for the feel good factor.

He was probably just looking for a new dog, and decided to pay a quick visit to the troops for some free publicity while he was there, the selfish bastard. Looks like the Don Cherry type to me...

Tman1 Tman1: Although I don't mind Don Cherry, he has no business going there. Why not? I would have loved a visit from Don while I was over there. That's a solid 24+ hour trip to get over there, one way. The fact he did it is damned commendable. There are also numbers of other things he does with and for the troops that he doesn't do for media attention. He does it because he enjoy's it, and I personally believe he is a legitimate, staunch supporter of the troops.

Yup, I can think of dozens of easier ways for him to get some publicity, especially at his age.

Don Cherry is a witless baboon. He may be a Canadian icon, but Cherry is also a complete ape and he says a lot of stupid shit. He's a fool being paid to play the fool. He's a clown. His buffoonery may have even reached a new epic high with his Rob Ford-investiture pinko bit. But whatever we may criticize Cherry for, criticizing his support of our forces is undeserved. His support for the Canadian forces is genuine. I don't believe, for a second, that he made this trip for publicity. He did it to cheer up the troops and he did it from the heart. That gets a big fucking Don Cherry thumbs up from me.

I think it's awesome that he went over there at Christmas. I don't think he did for any personal agenda either. We've become so jaded that all kindness, respect, compassion and selflessness are looked upon with apprehension and we mistrust the intention? Very sad.
Good on ya Don!

Alright Don. Ready to bet not too many ''Pinkos'' would even go over there.

2Cdo 2Cdo: Yea, he's a horrible man heading over during the Christmas season to help bolster the troops spirit while being deployed away from friends and family. Indeed he is. The horrible horrible man. As for the other intelligent responses, I suppose some troops, not all, would appreciate his visit during Christmas. Still, it is a highly dangerous area where even ANA troops fire on unsuspecting allies and other people. Not saying it is a bad thing but I'm sure everybody in Cherry's family would like him home during the holidays and he sure ain't the young man in the Coaches Corner intro anymore.

Pick-up hockey in Afghanistan ain't what it used to be since Bobby Probert left us. Thanks for the heart, Don.
