Really they should just open a season, make a little dough, give some bird hunters a good time. Win win.

The number of days available for hunting migratory birds is fixed by international agreement and the maximum allowable time for the hunting of Canada geese is already at the allowed limit.

That's the Migratory Birds Convention. Easy enough to update. It's like 100 years old or something--a different era. Canada goose have reached pest levels in parts of the US too. They'd be willing to sign on, I'd bet.

If I didn't have the CPC icon on my profile what would your comment read?

I converse with quite a few wildlife biologists employed with the government of Canada. I have nothing bad to say about any of them.

Did he say anything about culling humans?

Must I really break out the Crayolas?

;-)

Nope, if you didn't have the CPC icon I'd think you are just an anti-science nutbar.

It's just a stupid comment you made. He made an obvious one, likely prodded by the reporter, but you really tried to run with it. I just don't get where you were coming from there, it's such an innocuous statement.

And I jumped on you because I was primed by QBC who was also using some weird pretzel logic to try to slag tree-huggers, none of whom are involved in this story.

I'm not anti science at all. In one sentence they say the geese are responsible and must be culled, then further down the page they say that humans are responsible...
I wasn't referring to anyone being a tree hugger. :-)

Arguably, some populations of Canadian geese are no longer 'migratory'.

At the time the Convention was written they didn't know that some eagles are migratory, so they aren't covered.
