Nice propaganda by the colonel, but I dout its a true statement. Lets face it this is a wasted endeavour and a cash cow for Afhganistan. There will never be real change or democracy in that country and history has proven it.

The only good thing about Afghanistan is it's a magnet for the Jihadi's. Instead of them flying aircraft into our buildings, they are being killed in combat with our professional soldiers in the arse-hole of the world.

Well, the bad thing is that all the bullshit with Afghanistan is helping to build the home grown Jihadi's which aren't going to to be killed in the arse-hole of the world, but are sticking around to figure out how the hell to do damage at home.

I dunno Gunny. The ones who have been at it in Canada and the UK share a common heritage and links. As in Pakistan. The Taliban are a bit more diverse.

Or those London cab drivers who go to Astan for part of the year to do jihad, because they "owe it to their Muslim brothers." So one day they might be giving a British soldier a ride in their cab, all nice and friendly, and another day trying to blow him up. Crazy.

I don't doubt NATO can virtually eliminate Taliban activity in Astan. But that does nothing about Pakistan, nor does it change hearts and minds in Astan. As soon as NATO leaves, bada bing, bada boom.

I don't understand why Astan is the place to draw a line in the sand. Is it really so important militarily or geopolitically that we (the west) want to station a permanent force there? Heck, can the west even afford this sort of bullshit anymore?

I agree Chumley. There is no immediate conclusion in sight as the Taliban keep recruiting using their secret camps. As they have already let us know, all non-muslims must be converted or killed. It's just a shame some countries don't realize they are already at war with the Taliban (at least from the Taliban point of view). Pulling out is not an option.
