Curtman Curtman:
andyt andyt:
But with Khadr they made a deal, it was part of the plea agreement.

Marc had the same deal as part of his plea agreement.

Except...

$1:
"There's no victim in my case,'' he said. "There's nobody who's claiming I hurt them ... so you're talking hundreds of thousands of happy customers.''

Oh let's fucking face it, this country has been far too soft with terrorists for a while now. Despite claims to the contrary, it appears our politicians ( and lawyers/judges)) are quite comfortable harbouring them!
So remember Canada, terrorists and treason are good, marijuana and hunting rifles are evil.
Kinda gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside...oh wait, that's just the bile rising in my throat.

The problem I have with this government, is that it is completely arbitrary where and when they draw the line and 'stand by their principles'. I think they've got some kind of a wheel that they spin in the PMO that decides these things.

As opposed to the Liberal PM flying to a Pakistan prison hospital and meeting Khadr senior then pressuring the Pak government to free him?

Any Canadian who is being held without access to a lawyer, or being given a fair trial, or is being threatened with death deserves our help. I'm not sure what you are referring to though. My best guess would this finding on Wikipedia:

$1:
As Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien happened to then be visiting Pakistan, he mentioned the matter to Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who promised "fair trial and fair treatment". Lacking evidence to suggest Khadr was involved in the bombing, Pakistan dropped their charges and released Khadr in March. Upon returning to Canada, Khadr kissed the ground.

Yea, maybe it was a bit before your time curty. Chretien went to the prison and met Khadr Snr. The photo (which others such as Dr Caleb clearly remember) of him shaking Khadr's hand has mysteriously vanished from the internet. Some of us can remember this stuff without wiki.

Chretien had access to CSIS and RCMP briefs on Ahmed Khadr and his links to Bin Laden but he intervened anyway.

Then we had Paul Martin attending a Tamil Tiger fundraiser in Toronto despite RCMP objections.

Keep throwing stones in your glass house.

Some of you might be fine with doing away with 'innocent until proven guilty'. Or arbitrary decisions about who should be repatriated and who shouldn't. I'm not one of those people. So you can bring as many pitchforks or torches, but we should not start burning witches.

We haven't done anything wrong regarding khadr, if you and khadr have a beef with how long it took for a trial sue the U.S. government not ours. You should know kadhr under advice from Canadian lawyers were playing footsies with the process it gitmo delaying it as far back as 2005, then he fired a couple of lawyers, delaying it further.
As far as repatriation goes our responsibility to bring him back starts when he was convicted which happen last week. I know you can't wait to get him back it may take awhile, he should be walking the streets by next Christmas.

I don't really care about Omar Khadr, or where he goes.

What I am interested in, is why Marc Emery who hasn't harmed anybody won't be allowed to serve his time here, given that Omar Khadr who plead guilty to killing someone will be?

In Marc's case, the government of Canada agreed to bring him back here prior to him agreeing to the plea agreement. In the case of Omar Khadr, the government denies even knowing about the plea agreement.

Post a new thread on Marc curty. This one's about Khadr. I thought you'd change tack once I pointed out the Chretien link you obviously didn't know about. :D

I started this thread because I wanted to discuss that aspect. You can start a new thread, or go to the other one if you want to talk about Omar's dad or whatever.

I think that Khadr's dad has more to do with the topic than Marc Emery, don't ya think?

You would obviously rather neg rep me than deal with a point you raised and couldn't defend. Nice.

I thought we dealt with that.
