Dear UAE,

Go fuck yourself,

Love Canada.

Anyway, if they are adamant that they must engage in political bunfighting, then I'd hope our government will not be shy to toss back.

What a bunch of cry-babies. Just because they want extended landing rights to our airports.

It just goes to show that shiny sky-scrapers do not make a civilisation. These guys are still in the 19th century.

I was reading the comments in the Globe. Usually the posters at the G&M are pretty partisan and not at all jolly with anything remotely Tory. On this one even they are applauding the DND and the governments refusal to bow to blackmail.

It's amazing that these guys just think of how much money they can make off us as our guys are getting killed in Afghanistan. True friends indeed.

Too right mate! Although I'm sure you can find chicks doing the 7th century fashion look in the Turkish north side of the island.

I was on a det there a long time ago. When you guys and our guys were trundling around Beruit. You could see New Jersey's 16 inch guns blasting on a clear night.

I had a few trips on a RAF Chinook out to sunny Beruit.

If Dubai wants to be a vacation resort for Westerners then cutting down on the religious restrictions are part and parcel of that.

Hmmm...off again I see. UAE is the most liberal country within the GCC. Tsk Tsk I thought you took something for that ass fact problem you had earlier. Time to get a refill me thinks.

BartSimpson BartSimpson:
As for the West accomadating Islam, would you propose to ban the consumption of pork in the workplace to accomadate islam?

UAE is the most liberal but you don't even get to vote and there isn't a free press.

Lots of skyscrapers though. That more than makes up for it eh?

Good point.

It looks like bling can keep the people happy, for a while. I think democracy will happen in China before it happens in the Arab world.

That's where fascism trumps communism in the evil world of totalitarian societies. It allows its citizens to enjoy/accrue personal wealth, and when you're prosperous you tend not to dwell on abstract things like human rights and universal sufferage. The Chinese realized this fact and went with it.

It's just like colonial times really, except the oppressors are Chinese and Arabs now. Different bosses exploiting the masses. Not too much has changed besides the standards of living.

No freedom, no accountability.

I do like the comparison to facism though Shep. It makes a lot of sense.
