Thanos Thanos:
Any chance it's the quality of the alcohol consumed that's causing the bad behaviour? I talked to an off-duty cop once who claimed that the vast majority of bar fights and domestic disputes were initiated by someone drinking draft beer. He said that there was something uniquely evil about draft beer that made it as bad for drunk weekend pubcrawlers as the shitty firewater whiskey that traders used to sell to the Natives. If that British stuff off the tap is as bad as the same crap in our bars it might explain how the problem back in the mother country exploded so badly.
Cheap booze doesn't help Thanos, but I really believe it's cultural. The liquor laws are very lax and over-serving is the norm. It's generally seen as 'just a bit of fun' when people go out, get well pissed and fight.
We used to say "a fight, a curry and a shag." Sometimes the order would vary but it was always accompanied by 10 pints of lager or bitter.
The Brits don’t notice how bad general behavior is. When I was back last my mates thought I was being a kill-joy because I was less than impressed with watching the constant fights in every pub we went into.
The city centres are devoid of police and gangs of intoxicated youths roam at will.
Not good. And really, it's always been this way.
