EyeBrock EyeBrock:
This would be a good game to play!

Ok, being half Irish and half English I want an apology from these people in this order.

The Irish, for the IRA terrorists etc and their atrocities during the 1960’s and on.

The English for invading Northern Ireland and killing those freedom fighters, the IRA from the 1960’s and on.

The Bloody Germans for everything after 1914 and before 1946.

The Bloody French for everything from 1066 to the present.

The English under Cromwell for the invasion of Ireland in 1649.

The Irish terrorists who killed English soldiers trying to bring peace to Eire in 1649.

The Normans for oppressing us free Anglo-Saxons in 1066.

The Anglo-Saxons for needlessly killing Normans rightfully claiming the English throne in 1066.

The Anglo Saxons for killing our Pict and Gaelic cousins.

The Pict’s and Gaels for killing the Anglo Saxons and Jutes.

The bloody Danes and other Vikings for killing everyone.

The Romans for killing the Ancient Britons and everyone else.

I’ve missed out a lot of people who should be apologising to me and giving me a cash settlement.......

You left out the damned Dutch. :D

Well in the west few believe them.

Maybe if they'd have thrown in a few bucks the Koreans would have believed them.

Japan should take lessons from Canada when it comes to issuing apologies.

Apologize for everything, even things you had no control over. Don't forget to pay outrageous sums to the heirs of the oppressed, since, as we all know money is the only thing that can correct an injustice or make the oppressed's families feel like they're Canadian.

Look again, Japan already paid Korea, the Korean government took the money to spend on public projects.

I stand corrected. Japan must have indeed discovered that for most people and governments money is the real reparation since apologies don't pay the bills.

In 1965 Japan loaned Korea 72 Billion Yen and gave them 108 billion yen in indemnities and grants which seems fair, till you consider that it took them till 2010 to actually apologize for conquering Korea, turning their people into slaves and raping the entire country.

Kind of a backward scenario though, most countries apologize and try and get out of paying. Japan payed first and then tried to get out of apologizing. [huh]

It might be time to drop this issue and forget about it. The Japanese aren't ever going to give any apology adequate enough to make some people happy. All I know is that right now they aren't the same people that they were 70 years ago so it seems ilogical to be fighting over this right now. The war's been over for a really long time so maybe, considering that we won the damn thing anyway, we should be the ones to show some magnanimity, try to tolerate something that we aren't ever going to be able to change, and just drop the issue and get on with other things. Besides, China's the megapower in the region now so if Japan even wanted to act up again the Chinese would just turn around and squash them for good.

Besides if the source of the problem is historical textbooks that are full of revisionist tripe there's not much anyone in this part of the world can do about it anyway. All it means really, speaking of revisionist textbooks full of lies and distortions, is that Japan has a whole lot more in common with Texas than anyone ever would have suspected.

Thanos, I would disagree with you.

Germany has apologized, taught its people about what happened, and has been able to
move on and be a full partner in the EU.
If there are problems with Neo-Nazis, invariably it is former East Germans at the heart of it.

Having traveled over much of Europe, I can see some of the old hatreds have persisted in the East; it was part of the reason to bring them into the EU as soon as possible, to start weeding that crap out.

Without acknowledging the same, and making concrete steps such as knocking down
the shrine, they will never be really able to shake off the past, never really
be forgiven by other countries, and never have the same place in Asia
that the Germans enjoy in Europe.

And knock off the constant tiresome American bashing,
it makes what could have been an interesting post turn into just more
juvenile bullshit.

You really are better than that; at least I hope you are.
