Because the Liberals figured out a good way to get votes - bring in lots of immigrants. Now the Reformacons play the same game, appealing to the social conservative side of immigrants. And because business makes a killing by keeping wages down.

Using immigrants for votes actually is a tory thing.. started with Mulroney.
More immigrants were brought to Canada during his time in office than any other..
but hey we stood by and let it happen. Now Canada is fragmented and fractured. A mixed bag of sub-cultures who know they can take advantage of Canada's system.
Toews says he is keeping an eye on the ships.. he will probably meet them at the dock and hand out Tim Horton gift cards... yep Canada is spineless!

Update on this...

http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/TopStories/20100811/tamil-ship-100811/

Never mind 200 people as this original article suggests. Now they figure there are "several hundred" PLUS 2 more ships coming.

$1:
Because the government now believes the MV Sun Sea is part of a Tamil Tiger-led smuggling operation, Ottawa intends to "send a message that this simply won't be tolerated."

Oh really? Let's see how tough Ottawa is...

Don't we have, like, a navy or a bunch of motor boats of some sort to stop them and make them turn around? I'm fairly annoyed at Arizona for the ham-fisted way that they're trying to enforce their border with Mexico (mainly because there's no way in hell that Latino-American citizens aren't going to be stopped and harassed by the police just because they 'look the type') but at least the Yanks are trying to do something about an intolerable immigration problem. What's our excuse for not doing anything to stop this seaborne invasion of illegals that are ridden with one of the most dangerous terrorist organizations the world's ever seen?

Canada: greatest country in the world, but also the biggest collection of suckers in the world.

Vancouver has experience dealing with matters such as this, they did a pretty good job of dealing with the Hindus aboard the Komagata Maru back in May 23, 1914. The ship’s journey was intended as a direct challenge to BC’s exclusionist laws. On July 23, 1914—exactly two months after she had arrived—the Komagata Maru was forced to leave the city. Some 20 of its passengers who already had resident status had been allowed to disembark. The more than 300 others had to return.

I doubt that is a rational solution to anything.

Many of them could still be war refugees escaping. In my opinion an investigation should be made over members of the ship for past links with the LTTE. Tamil civilians are escaping because of conditions in their home country.

Remember giving them refugee status and their children Canadian status will cause no harm to Canada. These people will forever be grateful to Canada and will see themselves as Canadians. Its what happens.

Its hard to understand this fear of immigrants when the talk of the town is of diversity and Canada showcasing its diversity. Its something to be proud of that Canada is a safe haven for people oppressed or living in poor conditions in their own countries or escaping war and bloodshed. Try to understand the immigrants rather than blame them. They can be very useful members of society

The Tamil Tigers lost their revolution. Of course their refugees.

That guy on the bow of the ship doing coke off a combat knife with an AK47 in his off hand? Refugee.

Soon to be rival drug lord bathing the streets of Vancouver in blood? You bet.

Still a refugee.

There is a huge difference between a Tamil Tiger (Member of the LTTE which stands for the Liberation front for tamil ealam) and a Tamil civilian.

The thing what the tamil tigers do and terrorists in general do is hide among the civilians and cause havoc from between their ranks in the hope that civilians will be the ones to suffer. Then they capitalize on the rage left amongst these civilians when they become the target of our (shall i say) chastisement.

In fact you would be surprised how similar their tactics are to the Tehreek e Taliban in Pakistan who also hide among the civilian population and use them as shields. When our army strikes it sometimes causes civilian causalities if we are not careful with air strikes and artillery. Sri lanka had a strikingly similar problem when dealing with the Tigers and thousands were displaced as a result of the war.

All I am saying is the civilians must not become victims due to the intense fear of immigrants. We don't want civilians to BECOME tamil tigers. We need to understand the causes that provoke terrorism.

Bullshit in droves. These people started an revolution and when it went south they decided that it was time to fuck off and illegally enter our country since it's known around the world as a safe haven for "refugees". Once here the Tigers appear to have every intent of formenting their rebellion from the safety of a democracy.

And if you don't believe me here's a link:

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columb ... ouver.html

Refugees my ass. Their list of accomplishments goes on and on and on. They trained with the PLO, are linked to Al Qaeda, were responsible for forcibly removing, or "ethnically cleansing", Sinhalese and Muslim inhabitants from areas under their control, and using violence against those who refused to leave. The evictions happened in the north in 1990, and the east in 1992 etc etc etc.

No wonder they want out. They've caused so much hate and animosity with the people that they didn't kill outright that they probably do have a good reason to fear for their lives. But with that being said, why do we need them here formenting rebellion and living off our dime while they do it.

Here's another link if anyone is still actually gullible enough to believe the Tamils are being persecuted in Sri Lanka.

posting.php?mode=reply&f=59&t=91016

It's definately an intersting read and proves that these boat people aren't genuine refugees but simply illegal aliens attempting to circumvent our immigration policies.
