Until someone comes out and tells me what sect is going to build, operate and teach in the Mosque I'll reserve my opinion about whether a mosque should be built that near ground zero.

It is the "moderate" Feisal Abdul Rauf.

He wants to put Shariah in the Law. Abolish separation between the State and the religion. And he thinks that conversion of the West to Islam is the way to go to end international conflicts.

Thanks.

But where did you get the Sharia Law and the abolition of seperation between state and religion part?

All Wikipedia really says is that he's been trying to bridge the gap between Muslims and the west. The only real knock against him is that he won't declare Hamas a terrorist organization?

If anything he's appears to be more of an oxymoron than a threat.

...and? If I had the desire, I could Google up some Christians who want essentially the same things(just their version of it) and a return to Slavery amongst all kinds of other things.

He has a column in the Washington Post.

About the integration of the Sharia to the Law in UK: http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfaith/panelists/feisal_abdul_rauf/2008/03/archbishop_of_canterbury_was_r.html

About the separation of State and religion: http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfaith/panelists/feisal_abdul_rauf/2009/12/positive_power_of_religion_to_shape_policy_2009s_biggest_religious_story.html

That's a false argument.

What do you think the Japaneses would say if Americans wanted to build a museum about the atomic bomb near the ground zero in Hiroshima ?

I'm not against mosques, I'm against provocation and that is truely provocation. Just imagine how the Islamists will celebrate in Middle-Orient when the Mosque will be built. "We are wining over the West !!! Allah Akhbar !!"

Dude, Islam wasn't responsible for taking down the WTC. It was Bin Laden and 19 freaks.

All muslims were outraged of what happened on sept 11th

And what if this community center were to be prevented from being built? What would that say about America?

"Liberty and justice and freedom for all" - except for the dirty Muslims of course. Nevermind the first amendment and the wishes of the founding fathers. Or the reasons the first pilgrims came to America for that matter.

The opposition to this is born out of nothing more than the worst kind of religious intolerance and xenophobia.

Plans to stop this this Mosque area waste of time. The thing has been approved and is going up. I lost two people on 911 so I know the emotions involved. There are moderate Muslims involved in this and this is NOT what al Quada wants.

It is easy for us to think of Islam as Al-Quada. I thought that way myself at times. It isn't. I've researched this thing and while I admit to some to some discomfort at thought of James and Rodney about this unless I see something that points to danger I am going to take a leap of faith and see what happens and hold these organizers at their word. It's going up anyway.

I for one don't know what all muslims, or for that matter any muslims think of the events of Sept. 11. I do know that we can't hold Islam responsible for what 19 or so people did.

I'm not against the building. But I think this is morally wrong and provocation. They are using America's freedom to promote their ideology and propaganda.
