$1:
He needs to be locked up for a good long while. But in a place where he's shown a better way to be, nut just treated like dirt, and given the opportunity to change. Unfortunately we don't do this. We either give him a slap on the wrist, which tells him he can get away with it, or we lock him up with hardened criminals who teach him that iguana killing is just kid's stuff.

Well said Andy.

Continuing in the same "mood" of the other thread on pedophilia, I would say that the guy is still very young. A sociopath is more than that. It's someone who has almost no emotion for other people, even closed ones. They are also mostly intelligent.

What happened here looks more like a frustrated and angry teenager who needs to be get back on track. Rehabilitation in a good environment with good help.

That COULD be the beginning of a violent sociopath. But well, at least we need to try to help him. Psychiatrists will judge after that if he his able to be rehabilitated.

It's psychopaths who tend to be more intelligent. However looking around it seems the difference has become more blurred between psychopathy and sociopathy but there appear to still be some presistant markers between the two. Psychopaths tend to be more planners, organized, secretive and manipulative. Sociopaths are opposite for the most part and easily agitated. Seems the debate still goes on since I last took crimpsych and now both are just labeled antisocial personality disorder (APD). This is too bad as I still lean to thinking, from what I studied, that they cannot be treated the same. A psychopath is more wired before birth and last I head non have been successfully treated, while a sociopath is mostly learned and can be treated. Lumping them together under APD just seems a bit silly.

Thank you for the explanation. I guess I mixed the two mental illnesses.
