I don't think Canadians and the CF ever forgave the Liberals after cancelling the 101 contract. That kept the sea crates in the air for another decade and cost more in $ and lives than the 101 would have.

Please, Canadians political memory is so short I doubt they even remember it.

Fuck, not again!

If you are going to shoot it down, you better do a fucking better job than you did replacing the Sea Kings - as in it better not take another decade to sort out which plane Canada buys.

I have a friend that does civilian mil spec work on the CF18s. I think I remember him mentioning that the CF18 has another 20years to go and its got to do with the stealth jets being so darned expensive.

But, 65 F-35 for 16 billion sounds like a good deal. Weren't these jets in the .75 to 1 billion range recently?

The expected life cycle of the F35 is 30 years.

The only people all over this will be the two or three Liberal supporters.

Like Eyebrock said (many times) the Canadian forces needs these aircraft for the future.

Cancelled by the next Liberal Government, with any luck that will be NEVER. Way to support the defence of Canada.

Considering tax-payers would have to pay the tab in the area of 19 Billion dollars it's a wise decision. We can get already tested, and proven aircraft at a fraction of the price from the UK. Not to mention that we would have access to the source software, which we are being denied by the US to maintain our own fighters.

The F-35 is a huge mistake, when the public gets wind of the price tag their going to have series second thoughts about the competence of the CPC.

Do you want me to shoot down your paper-thin argument again?

The F35 is CHEAPER than the Typhoon.

I've already provided the source material from the British Ministry of Defence and the US air force that proves other wise so you're just plain wrong. Simply because you dint want to read it doesn't make it any less true

The unit themselves are nearly a third cheaper than the F-35 , and the F-35 program budget is still being bloated by the Pentagon mentality, as we speak they want to build a second , and entirely different engine system for this aircraft. The cost? 100 billion dollars for an engine system that the aircraft already has which isn't even tallied by most people because they don't know about it.

Who do you think is going to pay for that overhead?

The end-user, that means the Tax-Payer

No i gave the links from Wiki AND the source Material.Since you insist on being mypoic and don't like to read things, the original DoD and MoD reports.

http://www.saffm.hq.af.mil/shared/media ... 28-072.pdf

http://www.nao.org.uk//idoc.ashx?docId= ... version=-1

Source material, even though it's unlikely you'll actually read, your regard for Tax-payers money is somehow fitting these days for a conservative.

The MoD hasn't commented on unit price of a Typhoon since 2003.

Not really your top subject this is it?

EyeBrock EyeBrock:
I thought the Libs got us into the F35 project? We started getting involved in this in 2001.

$1:
The Chrétien Liberal government signed a memorandum of understanding with Lockheed Martin to develop the fighter jet, but did not commit the country to purchasing the aircraft.

So, if the Liberals didn't want us to buy the F-35 Fighter, why did they spend millions helping develop another countries military capabilities? 8O

They must just be nice guys. [B-o]

To be fair, the Libs post the EH101 debacle have made some good procurement moves.
