I disagree. It is not symbolic in France. They have a tangible issue. Their policy of allowing virtually unlimited immigration from former North African (primarily Mulsim) colonies, combined with the usual much higher birth rate of immigrants has created a large, unassimilated Muslim underclass in that country.

We don't have that in Canada, and we aren't likely to any time soon.

I've heard that the opinion on that law in the United States is not the same at all. They are majoritarly against the ban (about 65-70%). While the Europeans, they are at 60-70% FOR the ban.
