Sociopaths can, indeed, be born. By definition, most people affected with Asperger's (a form of autism) are sociopathic. They commonly are unable to comprehend the notion of empathy and they are commonly unable to register the emotional states of other people.
My brother-in-law has acute Asperger's (and my wife's family, including herself, have varying degrees of it.) and he will often do things that are insensitive and rude and he will not understand what you mean when you say what he did was upsetting. If it didn't hurt him then he doesn't care.
Given that this is the case with people afflicted with Asperger's it is perfectly reasonable to expect that other, more functional people, can also evidence the acute lack of empathy that is required for sociopathy as an innate trait.

That's a different kettle of fish completely Bart. Aspergers falls under the autism umbrella. A miniscule amount of behaviors may seem similar to socipathic ones, but for the most part what drives these behaviors is something altogether different.

Sociopaths are often predatory in nature, they're manipulative and of above average intelligence. While some who suffer from Aspergers can be savants, most are not.

Also, to get back to an earlier point that is crucial. Sociopaths are master manipulators and can pile on the charm, although everything about them is fake. Those who suffer from an autism disorder have no idea how to read or interact with people and are themselves, often manipulated. What you get from someone who has Aspergers are completely honest reactions.

many sociopaths are extremely successful in business and or politics. They don't care who is in their way or what they have to do to acheive their objective. I guess that would be valuable, as long as their target and yours line up, and they don't perceive you as a rival or a threat to getting what they want.
