The Black Bloc deligitimize regular protesters, and actually prevent people from coming out to protest because of fear of violence. They have the exact opposite effect of what they are claiming their goals are. So while they probably aren't police officers, I really do wonder who's behind them.

The police need to get better at differentiating between legit protesters and these clowns - if indeed the police are interested in doing so. Certainly we saw in the Asia Pacific summit that Chretien was pushing the police to over react with non-violent protesters, and actually detain people before the summit in case they might do something.

All said from you armchair andy.

If you have a riot and more people join it are they 'legit protestors'?

When people are told they can't go up a street because there is a riot but they sneak up back alleys that we don't have enough guys to block, then join the violent demo are they 'legit protesters'?

It wasn't just the Black-bloc types spitting at us. We had plenty of 'legit protesters' calling us 'assholes' and screaming at us.

You were probably posting wise-ass responses supporting 'legit protesters' on the forum while we were being spat at and our cruisers were being burned.

You would not say this if they were Amish anti-abortion protestors. You're only saying it because you're in denial about the capacity and penchant for violence of your fellow traveler leftists.

If someone joins a violent demonstration they are a rioter. The much more common case is that a group of legit demonstrators has a few people in it who start rioting, and the legit ones are trapped in the situation. Heard a radio reporter on the weekend being caught up just like that - surrounded by cops on horses who were riding people down. She kept screaming at the police - "were are we supposed to go" until she finally found a way out.

Your post shows the problem with the police attitude - anybody who's anywhere near a riot must be a rioter.

I guess if you were indiscriminately bashing away at me I'd be calling you an asshole too.

Fellow travellers - ah that takes me back to the good old McCarthy days.

As for the rest of your post, I don't get your point. I would guess Amish anti-abortion protesters would be peaceful. I actually have a lot of respect for Amish, Hutterites etc. Wouldn't want them in a position to run the govt (but then I believe they wouldn't aspire to that anyway) but I respect their way of life. Except for the incest and drug use of course.

Black Bloc are Pussy's hiding behind masks. If they were all what they say they are, show your faces and be men/women about it. Standing up for what you believe in is a right in Canada. These few jacka$$ didn't stand up for anything. After seeing that girl swing the bat at the window, I was laughing so hard, thinking, good idea to have a mask over your face because I wouldn't want anyone to know I swing a bat like a girl...LMAO

Let me clarify; your nascent paranoia about a government-sponsored conspiracy is only limited to instances such as this where leftists are demonstrating their natural, violent tendencies.

Really, I've oft enjoyed the irony of leftists rioting at peace rallies.

Reminds me of the November 2000 election rally I attended at the California State Capitol where there were about 25,000 Bush supporters and about a dozen Gore supporters.

The police were called in when the Gore supporters got violent.

Meanwhile, the Bush crowd at the end of the rally picked up behind themselves and left the place cleaner than it was at the start of the rally.

Bollocks and you know nothing.

People were asked to leave THREE times at 5 minute intervals.

We left a huge exit path for them. They chose to ignore us while we were fighting to regain control of OUR streets. We are citizens of Toronto too you know.

They chose to remain despite all the danger they caused us and they were arrested. Any other ideas on how we could have resolved this from that all-knowing armchair of yours?

Typical attitude of people who think they are above the law and give complicit support to those people trying to destroy our city.

No bashing involved. We were harassed by nasty people intent in destruction and they were aided by people like you calling us ass-holes for protecting our city.

If you support them then we both know where we stand.

You support anarchists and those who choose to harass police.

It should be fairly self-explanitory. If the Black Bloc originated from and is connected to Quebec's hard leftist radical politics, and their pseudo-nationist separatism, then it clearly illustrates the hows and whys behind their political puritanism, contempt for law & order, hatred for private property, and penchant for extreme street violence and rioting.

Same as hard right-wing fundamentalism, nothing good ever comes from it's identical twin on the left. These idiots are just hyperpoliticized and brainwashed scum. None of them will ever do anything significant with their lives, so they brush across the line into terrorism as far as they're willing to go in order to make themselves feel tough. Typical of bullies and cowards, and really nothing too new to see at all.

And the last time there was a vandalistic riot by "hard right-wing fundamentalists" was....when?

I'd look at your history of your All-American KKK for an example of what the enraged rightwing likes to do to innocent people. But don't worry too much about it. The Klan really weren't psychotic terrorists or anything negative like that, they were just your average Real Americans standing up for their rights against a big liberal government.

Seriously? No offence, Bart, but in the last week you've espoused serious harm to any number of people to whom you took offence. ("If I saw someone hunting an eagle..." "If I were alone with him in a room with a baseball bat..."). Think before you type, man.

Sorry, but I will stand by what I said with the eagle. Killing a magnificent creature just so you can take its feathers? I understand killing a whale for food, killing a seal for fur and food, but to kill an eagle just so you can take its feathers? That's sick but I'll go so far as to agree with the one poster who said let them do it but only with traditional weapons and not modern versions of those weapons.

As to the other situation I didn't say that I would use the baseball bat, I said the other guy could have it. I may not always be rational, but I am sporting.

Thanks Bodah!

Lots of people came up to us and thanked us. Way more than who spat at us.
