We're really no different than yeast, polluting our environment. At least they shit out alcohol so if they had brain cells they could die happy.

See, this is where a nanny state would come in handy. And you made the point in another topic that people elect their leaders, so deserve them. So if our leaders are being nannies, it must be because we want them to.

We do want them to be. The natural instinct of a frightened child is to ruyn to mommy. We have a ubiquitous media that is great at scaring the crap out of people, and we have a demographic of old people who are easily scared anyway. Result: Nanny state.

Funny I was just thinking of the yeast cell comparison myself this morning. Great minds think alike!!!

I dont see how I could choose to use less.

I already park my truck and own a second vehicle specifically for better fuel economy( less polution)

I commute with my wife. I've already tried bicycling and it is a 1h45m trip each way.

How do I afford a more energy efficient house when my current house already comes with a 45 year mortgage?

my recycling bin is 5x larger than my garbage bin.

I buy flourescent bulbs for my house even when the bright ones dont fit so I have to walk around squinting all the time.

my Sunday best smells like used cloth diapers because we have been scared into not using disposable diapers.

at what point do I get the right to say 'enough is enough, leave me the F alone, leave my pocket book the F alone, and unless you have some sort of new technology, pls go away and never bother me again'?

To really make a diff, it has to be a systemic change, not just people doing dibs and drabs. Sounds like you're trying hard to cut back your use, tho if oil goes thru the roof, not doubt you'd be surprised what savings you'd still be willing to make. But far better is a system that makes it easier for people to use less.

Who's forcing you? You are free to do as you please. It's funny because you seem like a law and order kind of guy, always behind whatever new regulations the various levels of government are bringing in, and yet, in this case, where this is absolutely no regulation in place and you can do what you want, you feel chafed.

Velly intellesting.

Sure, and Canada is colder too. But we're not exactly trying. We drive bigger cars, live in bigger houses and use less energy efficient equipment. Plus we have a more throwaway attitude vs the Europeans who buy quality and keep things longer. As long as oil was cheap, it didn't matter, but with the competition we're getting from Asia it won't stay cheap. And it will put pressure on us accessing all known oil reserves, even if it's environmentally hazardous - have to add the cost of something like the BP spill to the cost of oil. We could and should be trying harder to conserve.

Then all Canadians should be forced to live in lower Ontario to allow for efficiencies in mass transit, housing, and energy expenditures.

Hey, you even have precedents for doing this kind of thing that vastly improved energy efficiency and gave people the kind of living conditions the best minds in government decided they should have:

In Ontario it seems like the government is a signifigant driving force behind higher energy prices.

Profligate waste is a sign of moral decline because waste is immoral when people around the world lack. Capitalism demands efficiency and the best "green" initiatives are succeeding because they reduce costs and increase profits for businesses and they reduce expenditures for families.

My wife and I spent a goodly sum on insulating our home and then we planted deciduous trees so we have the house shaded in the summer and so the sun shines on it in the winter. Thus our average electrical bill runs around $30 per month in the summer and around $40 in the winter. Our gas bill runs about $12 per month because we installed a demand water heater that is wonderfully efficient. We use our bath towels twice to save on water and electricity. We have one TV and it is not on all day. We have also reduced the amount of garbage we put out every week by refusing to buy so many packaged goods and we do not use disposable paper towels. And etc.

Consequently, we do very well on a comparatively modest household income and today I was pleased to up my monthly retirement deduction by an additional $250.00

Couldn't do that if we were wasteful. But that fact that we are investing our savings makes us capitalists.

I have to agree with the Enbridge spokesperson, the Northern Gateway pipeline is essential to diversifying our economy. Unless they start hiring alcoholic tanker skippers, I'm not too worried...

First Enbridge must settle with every single Indian Band as they've all come out dead against their pipeline.
Plus all their eggs are in one basket, Kitimat. Fill up a tanker, navigate what amounts to a long fjord, and then you still have to navigate the Inside Passage. No option for a terminus with a better route to the open sea.
That's all it does take. One drunken captain. Or even one acting captain getting a blowjob when he should be watching the radar.

So what part of BC you guys from?
Iggy just gained from this announcement. Tankers to & from Kitimat is a goddam recipe for disaster.

Not likely.

Before I vote the Liberals they need to A) get a leader who is a leader and a Canadian, not some American who doesn't have a backbone on anything. B) Stop trying to give minorities special rights, race and religion have no place in politics. No one should get more money for school or anything simply cause of their race or religion.

I very much support the Liberals and their attempts at reducing Canada's debt, though I did not support the cuts to the military.
