But speaking of applying the law, why is it applied to bikes,
but not to stereos, the hopped up Nip cars with garbage can exhausts,
not to mention ur lawnmower or leafblower, which can get just as loud ?

There are already disturbance of peace laws on the books.

From what I understand, many cities have a 24 hour amplified noise bylaw and will enforce it if there's a complaint. The rice racers piss me off too and should be targeted and ticketed as well. At least lawn mowers and leafblowers serve a purpose, although using a leaf blower is just incredibly lazy

There's nothing like driving the Whitemud, windows down on a fine summer day, and having a stealth hog do a 'whisper' pass that you don't hear - rather, feel - until right as they pass your window scaring the shit out of you. Shit lot of good it would have done them if I decided to lane change.

I've often wondered, if the straight pipes are with safety in mind, why aren't they wearing the bright yellow and orange safety vest like the cops do?

Between slurping ur timmies, yakking on the phone, texting, reading the paper,

God knows what else ;),

cagers pay less attention than ever before, especially opening the eyes.

Open pipes are not so they can see you, they are so they can hear you.

I don't do any of that. Both hands on the wheel, eyes front, at all times.

But that is my point. When they are flying by me doing 100 in an 80 zone, you don't hear them until they are passing. By then it's too late if I were changing lanes.

So why don't they want to be seen as well? Answer - they don't. They want to intimidate.

Bout damn time. Had a fucking Harley humper across the street from my old house. Everyday at 6 AM he would rev the shit out of his bike for 10 minutes, then shut it off. Presumably AFTER he busted a nut.
Don't get me wrong, I have no issues with Harleys and their riders. Used to own a '68 Shovelhead myself, but the idiot across from me really was a fag. He spent more time humping it than actually riding it.

R=UP

I wouldn't have a problem with bike owners (and not just those on Harleys) if they didn't always want to rev the shit out of their engines at lights, under bridges, etc just because it sounds cool.

Despite the bias in this thread about Harleys, I'd be willing to be that the first guy to get a ticket for this will be one of those dumbasses who screams down Groat Road at 100 km/h on a sport bike.

Will they apply the same sound check to those assholes with their wanna-be "Fast and the Furious" cars with fart tubes? 8O

If not, I smell a discrimination lawsuit. 8)

They wanted to, but the method of testing isn't finalized yet. When it is, a similar bylaw will be enacted.

I remember in Bermuda, the standard for getting a ticket for having a radio too loud was; if the cop could hear it 20 paces from the car, you got a ticket.

Load pipes may save lives in very limited circumstances such as when you are right beside a vehicle. Otherwise they just p*** off the people behind you. As others have stated the doppler effect prevents the people in front from hearing the pipes. Yes, it is well documented those in cages do not SEE motorcycles and will pull out in front of them. Drivers are preoccupied with other distractions so when they look for vehicles they are looking for cars or bigger. I motorcycle doesn't register unless there is something to grab their attention. For those who mention cars making lane changes with them beside them it has little to do with you being a motorcycle and everything to do with a poor driver. I rent a lot of vehcles and from my experience over 90% of drivers do not know how to adjust the side mirrors. As the biggest customer of rental car companies are insurance companies mayb e that number is skewed from the bad driver group. Talk to transport companies and you will find they have accidents from car drivers making a lane change into the side of a semi. If they cannot see a semi then a bike is no different.

So if you want to be SEEN by those in cages do something to make your self stand out from the norm. Make sure your headlights are properly aimed. I notice a lot of cruisers have the headlight aimed too low and the light is virtually becomes undetectable a couple of hundred yards away and thus so does the bike become less visable. High beams during daylight hours are effective and not blinding as they would be at night; however, do not sit behind a car for miles with the high beams on, which is annoying. Phillips has developed a special light bulb for motorcycles with an orange cast. Hard to find in Canada, but I did see one bike with them installed and the lighting was so unique it really made the bike stand out from a distance. Add extra lights such a PIA's to the lower forks. Again differnt light configuration making drivers take a second look.

I bleieve being visiable and ATGATT will do more to save motorcyclists lives than loud pipes, but that is an opinion. YOMV.

Haro, I am a stupid spammer, who pimps his sister and mother on the side. I also like to lick the rectums of homeless people, looking for crunchy bits which I wash down with donkey cum.
