EyeBrock EyeBrock:
I'm not support Israel at all costs but the Aspers didn't alter the National Post much from Conrad's stewardship. if anything they started to lean more towards the centre. Don Martin came on board with Izzy and the rest and he's a big Liberal.
No, I just see you referring to the 'Jews' running our media. I dunno but your words make me feel a little uncomfortable. Why do so many people hate the Jews?
If a prominent Jewish family owns the largest newspaper chain in Canada, one that essentially owns markets like Vancouver, and they also own one of the two TV networks, then people who happen to be Jewish certainly have a big influence in our media. If you're only looking at the NP, that's not much of an issue, nobody reads that rag anyway - but the local papers people sure do.
I don't know why right away you want to smear me with the antisemitism label. I'm critical of CanWest's stated policy of being pro Israel. It's the owner's right to do so, but when they dominate the market to the extent they do, I think it's a problem. If we had more diversity in media ownership in Canada, it wouldn't bother me nearly as much.
I don't hate Jews, I don't hate Israel, and the two are not the same. I'll be critical of an individual Jew if he does something I disagree with, same as I would of any other ethnicity. And I'll be critical of Israel when they act in ways I don't agree with - the settlements would be the big thing for me. None of that makes me a Jew hater.
