I'm using the Roger's Extreme package cuz there's 3 of us on-line frequently. it also gives me 95 gigs of bandwidth for $60/mo. I may have gotten carried away a bit with the explanation of what Bell does. My 95 gigs allows me to d/l 60HD movies, watch a few hundred hours of youtube, have 3 people on-line at once, plus several on-line games. The math here is, even though I can burn through those 95 gigs a month pretty quickly, that would mean I'm not doing anything else other than d/ling. I mean c'mon, 60 HD movies is about 42 gigs. Not even half my bandwidth and I can watch 2 movies a day every day each month. That still leaves games, music and whatever else I might wanna do. Even with the size of some of the d/l's for on-line games like MMOs that are a few gigs it will barely make a dent even with "only" 53 gigs left. Roger's 2.5 gbps service gives you 125gigs of bandwidth/mo. Now, if you d/l 60 HD movies at the 2.5 gig rate it'll take approx 4 hours, leaving an amazing 83 gigs left for whatever else. So let's be real generous and say 9 hours to use all the bandwidth. How many movies can a person possibly watch in a month, on top of games you can play, and songs you can listen to etc etc? Hell, how much money would it cost just to RENT 60 movies a month? And if yer only into movies, that's an astonishing 180 movies/month Even with a crappy 60 gigs it STILL equals around 90 movies/month. Movie d/l figures are based on an average of 700mb/full length movie. As for my household usage; with 3 of us on-line, all the tunes I've d/led, the MMO's I've d/led, the stand alone PC games I download wherever I can find a digital d/l for it (I DO pay for the games I d/l in case anyone from a certain other thread is reading this ), and all the game d/ling the kid does, I've not even come close to my 95 gigs yet.

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada: PublicAnimalNo9 PublicAnimalNo9: I mean c'mon, 60 HD movies is about 42 gigs. Must be short movies? I don't download HD because it wouldn't flow nicely on my computer, but aren't the files normally huge? Like 8 gigs for a single movie? Admittedly, I went with Roger's figure for that and they used an average movie size of 700mb. I think they goofed though(or just plain lied), cuz after doing some looking it would appear the average HD movie d/l is about 4-5 gigs, so you're right.

Movies should only be 700 MB, 700 MB is a tons of space for a movie. But now people want "good" resolution and that so we get 4-5 gig movies.
Rogers didn't lie, they just used the average from 4 years ago.

Well, maybe playing fast and loose then cuz they are very specific about HD movies and using 700mb to represent the size of an HD movie. Although I gotta say, I don't know if anybody else experienced this but there were 2 times where the household was approaching our maximum b/w. I can't remember if it was 2/3 or 3/4 of max but I DO remember both times Roger's calling and letting me know we were approaching our maximum. I've got no problem with a company willing to give me a heads up instead of just letting me stumble into overuse charges. If I look at the next lowest package, it has 60 gigs of bandwidth with a claim that there is room for 87SD movies@700mb per, plus other goodies. 87SD movies is 60 gigs, so there really isn't room to do anything else. BUT, despite that, it does display that 60 gigs will get you approx 87 movies. That's still a lot of friggin movies a month to watch. And for all but the most voracious d/lers, that should be plenty...for now anyway I'd downgrade my service to the 60 gig bandwidth but I need the package I have for the 3 of us. Ok, don't need it but if I'm gonna pay for it to be in my house, I might as well make it useful for everybody in it.

If they specified HD movies then maybe they just have a Low Definition of High Definition.

So after reading PublicAnimal's post most dumbtwats in my town would rush out and buy an Internet stick. After all, it's on TV and they give everything to you absolutely free. The salesperson, wanting the $50 commission and knowing they'll never see that person again wouldn't mention caps, varying speeds, hidden charges, contracts. They'd go home and download 80 odd Gigs worth of stuff. After all they know that only downloading movies and music to view later uses bandwidth. Watching them online and watching youtubes and watching tv and internet radio doesn't use any. And be completely shocked to get a bill for several thousand dollars. Shocked even more so when they told them to fuck off, we're not paying that and got nailed with a contract cancellation fee for a thousand or so more. Stunned when they contact the BBB or Consumer Affairs and were told they signed a contract so pay up. Horrified to find that lawyers aren't free and then told them the same thing. Devastated when the Collection agency adds 60% monthly interest and calls them twenty times a day at work threatening to repossess their home and car, call all their friends and tell them they're thieving laggards.
No, that hasn't happened to at least a dozen dumbtwats I can name.....

Well, if the collection agency is calling their friends, then the collection agency has broken a major law, nevermind calling 20 times a day, also illegal. So those at least dozen ppl you know really ARE stupid for letting the collection agencies get away with it.

There's no one left to enforce that stuff. I have one agency call every 6 months or so asking for a guy who I let go 3 years ago. They've accused me of 'covering for him' and threatened our company. If you hang up on them, the phone immediately rings and reconnects.... filed 2 complaints but 6 months later it happens again.
We sell the Rogers stick here, but honestly. We point out the contract, the limits, and how it's really for like a salesman not family use. We don't sell too many that way. You wanna know HOW stupid the customers are? There's no 3G in our town. So one guy tries the demo unit in the shop and sees it's like 120K at best. Then he goes into the Rogers place in the city, tries it again. Comes back and tells the whole town "we sell the shitty Rogers sticks, he's been to the city and the store there sells the good ones". All of the 12 people I mentioned drove 200 miles and got their sticks there instead of at our shop. DUUUHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Cuz ya know your next door neighbour's out to rip you off, but a complete stranger in another town hundreds of miles away only has your best interests at heart.
