andyt andyt: I hope they go after BP for every penny of the cleanup costs, even if it bankrupts them. And if it's true about the cap, there should be criminal negligence charges for the top guy who signed off on this. I quite agree. If there are things federal lawsuits were made for, this is one of them. A functional capitalist system requires appropriate, just penalties for breaking the rules.

And since BP is not an american company, I don't think they gave a lot of money to the Republicans or the Democrats.

Proculation Proculation: And since BP is not an american company, I don't think they gave a lot of money to the Republicans or the Democrats. 2002 - 2006: BP donated $714,000 or so to the Republican Party. A quick Google search and I found lots of stories about BP's support of American political candidates.

considering the Demorats recieved $250 million dollars from the trial lawyers association in the 2008 election cycle. Didn't you read past the number? The number I cited was just contributions to the federal Republican party. BP donates A TON of money to American political campaigns, Republican and Democrat alike.

And that's just one company, not the industry-wide oil and gas contribution, which is what you're citing there, Manifest.
But that's American politics. You can't elected as a dog-catcher in your country without passing the hat around and selling yourself to corporate interests, Republican or Democrat. You have cash and carry government system, unfortunately. I'm sure Obama took plenty of money from Oil and Gas and whomever else. These corporations donate to BOTH parties, you know.
