It's the other way around at the Ontario/ New York border. The Yank border types are utter wankers.
The Canadian side gaurds have never, ever been rude to me. Rudeness is the order of the day on the US side.

Same with the Ambassador Bridge crossing, though there are some douchebags on the Canadian side too...

Then again, I'm driving a 20 year old Deville that bounces due to a bad suspension. I'd be suspicious too, haha.

Try putting some deadhead bumperstickers on,that should speed up the process. :D

Try crossing the border with mixed company{Canadian dating an American}My results were a 99% indoor interview on both sides of the border.Traveling alone was never a problem. One suggestion that I would make to the American side would be to hire more locals. The U.S. southern border goes out of the way to hire bilingual personnel to work the border.I see no such effort on our northern border. There is a lot of communication breakdown on our borders with Quebec and New Brunswick. The Border gaurds come from all over the States, and little French is spoken.A lot of the locals in northern New England are bilingual. They know the area, the local customs, and are not so suspicious. They know and respect the fact that most people in the area have relatives on both sides of the border.

It takes actual effort and commitment to be a cop or soldier.
It takes Uncle Jim in the civil service to tell you when and where to apply to be a border guard.
Then you get a uniform, a gun and get paid be an asshole.

On the level of complaints. It takes so friggin' long to get to and from the NY border crossings, who is gonna stop to complain about the rude US agents? They are all rude, all the time, it's like they train them to be total dick-heads. Well, the training was very effective. They are all dick-heads to a man/woman.

And you guys know I'm very pro-American.

I can tell. You're quite obviously biased or you would not be so generous as to call those low-born gutter snipes 'dick heads'.

They are not diplomats on behalf of the US Bart! Crappy first impression when you cross the border, it put's you on edge in an instant. It's like you instantly feel less safe. You land all of a sudden in a threatening environment.

It's a terrible introduction to a great country. It does you Yanks a great disservice.

I have done the majority of crossings at the Thousand Islands, and as I mentioned in a previous thread, the US guys are top notch pro's whereas the Canadian are completes cock suckers. One time this pencil neck asked me how much I was bringing back. I said I had "a couple hundred $ worth of soveniers. Without looking away from his little computer, he repeated the question, I said the same thing. Then he said "Do I detect an attitude?" I asked what he meant by that? He wanted me to say dollars instead of bucks, I was shaking my head and literally chewing the insides of my cheeks in silent rage over this guys attitude, then (because they asked our profession) he says "look, we both wear uniforms, you should show me some courtesy, as we are both doing our jobs". I was ready to climb out the window and fucking kill the guy. I figured he must of washed out of Cornwallis or something and had a hardon for Army guys because of it.

I'm sure that the Canadians have their share of dickheads on the border too, I've just never seen it yet.

On my dealings with the US Homeland security guys on official business, they are fantastic to deal with. Nothing but full-on cooperation. They are way easier to deal with than the RCMP. It's just a pity about the tossers at the border booths.
