Blanks don't generally have kickback (would be some fancy blanks if they do). So I tink the guy with the blank would know he was the one with the blank.

I think you missed the irony in my comment about the firing squad. He's only second person since 1976 to be executed by firing squad. It's not a really good way to earn extra money to get the kids to wonderland. I wanted to point that it's ONLY 125$.

Anyway, since the pay is ONLY 125$, that means they must have a lot of volunteers.

Is it true that one of the shooters has blanks in his gun? :?

Yup , there's usually 5 of them 1 of them has a blank they don't know who. Firing from 20' away. A doctor locates and pins a white circle over the inmates heart.

I suppose they all could miss that shot at 20' away but highly unlikely, looses conciousness instantly then dies.

Well, who is doing the shooting? They dont bring in special forces snipers, as I understand, its a bunch of prison guards, who probably only fire live rounds a couple of times a year. It has not been uncommon for the condemned to survive the first volley.

They are voluntary policemen. From what I've read, they don't even see the condamned. They shoot through holes in a wall with only the rifles going through. I think the rifles are 'strapped' and are already aimed to the condamned. They only have to pull the trigger.

wow...so what's the point of having the shooters in the first place? If the rifles are fixed in position and the shooters can't see the target, why not just have the rifles fire through mechanical linkage or remote control? One person could push a button that causes all of the pre-aimed rifles to fire in unison.

Certainly not you if you can't hit a target with a rifle at 20' away.
Have you ever fired a rifle ?

In the context of 20' away, firing squads in the U.S. your just making shit up now.

Most rifles ( 5.56, 203 or 7.62) put rather large holes in people. Much bigger than a pistol. Four 5.56 rounds would mince a body up and it would be highly unlikely for anybody to survive.

On the firing squad.
There are many studies on those who have been part of such execution units and the guilt or mental issues that are a result of such activities.
I don't think $125 will cover a life-time of wondering if my rifle had a live or blank round in it when I pulled the trigger in an execution.

Well, unless I'm getting the term "volunteer" confused, I'd hazard a guess that anyone involved isn't going to be too worried about putting one in the guy.
