I think this is hilarious and while as funny it would be to see it happen, there are FAR better choices out there. Like Leonard Cohen.

REX MURPHY for GG. Rex is too political to be a GG, but I do rather like him.

I'm 45.Shatner is hardly the highlight of my life, but I do like the guy.Star trek came out in 1966.I'm sure its still on reruns somewhere. He had T.J Hooker in the 80's.I never followed that.Star trek movies in the 80's and 90's.I think that Boston legal was well done. He won two Emmys and a golden globe for Boston legal. The guy has kept busy for over 40 years now.My point is how many actors that were big in 1966 are still around doing thier thing today?I can't think of many.

How about Mike Duffy? Hey we did have Adrienne Clarkson didn't we? Now that was a drop to the respect of the post of GG.

Blind, wheelchair bound, has no arms, openly gay transexual, has Tourette's Syndrome but that doesn't matter as he/she has hare-lip and speaks an unknown language, former convict currently on welfare. Knows tune of O Canada Na na na-na, fekk!, shit!, na na na na na-na tabernac! Na na na-na....
NDP & Libs, think of the PC 'value' of that candidate! Conservatives, think of the cost savings: just ONE international event for the entire term, no one would come to another!

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada: I apologize, but I think serious jobs should require perhaps serious people.
Also, someone who has spent some actual time in Canada might be good. Ya...captain Quirk has spent to much time off planet.

Can you imagine the speech from the throne ? "Governor General's Log Stardate Jan 2011. We are about to embark on a perilous journey to regions this nation has never encountered before. Endless. Silent. Waiting. This is the story of the nation of Canada... ":D

I could see Leonard Cohen as GG. He is an important Canadian cultural figure, even though his music and poetry are far greater works than his two novels. Despite being an avid reader, I just couldn't make it through either The Favourite Game or Beautiful Losers.

Hey, how about Margaret Atwood? I can't think of a better choice from the cultural sphere, actually. Though I'm not sure if she's bilingual.

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada: Why do we need a celebrity as GG?
The idea is embarrassing. Michaëlle Jean was a sort of celebrity before becoming GG. You'd just never heard of her.
