andyt andyt: Changing flags and leaving the US one at the bottom of the pole with pwnd attached to it - priceless. Destroying the flag - unbelievable. Wonder how they would feel if somebody say lit up a Canadian flag during a hockey game? exactly.

yeah these guys need to made to perform community service, I to take issue with what they did to the US flag, it is a symbol of a nation and to treat it with such abandon is unacceptable. They give Canada and Canadians a bad name.

The ol' flag switcheroo was pretty funny. The destruction of the US flag was not funny in the least. $1: "We should just invade Canada and annex the whole slow-moving country. It should be easy since they don't have any guns." No worries there, they'd have to ask our military to join 'em so they have someone that can point to Canada on the map.

As I've often said, most Americans can't find America on a map of America so I'm not too worried about these yahoos posing a threat to Canada. Heck, most Americans these days can't find their way across their own hometown without a GPS device in their car. Pretty sad for a people who made it to the moon mostly on the computing power of slide rulers.

It is pretty sad, but then again, when you consider that a fair number of Canadians were also involved in your space program, and now, we have kids that can't add without the aid of a friggin calculator, we're not that far ahead of you guys. Hell I STILL run into the occassional Canadian that thinks Toronto is the national capital. Back to the topic at hand, although it's no justification, I seem to recall a few incidents that were sports related where certain Americans showed a total lack of respect for OUR flag. Raising it upside down at a ball game, the US women's hockey team using it as a "rug" for the floor of their dressing room. There's good natured pranking and then there's taking it too far. This prank went too far.

BartSimpson BartSimpson: I was cool with this (mostly because I might have done it myself in some other circumstance) right up until I read about the guys tearing up the US flag and burying it under a pile of rocks.
I wouldn't do that to an Iranian flag.
I agree with some of the commenters who think that after the charges are dealt with that these particular folks be invited to return to Canada. The though of raising the wrong flag at certain situations can have its amusing moments, but destroying the flag of any decent country is totally wrong. People died for it and there is a great cultural history to any flag. The Iranian flag I would have to think about. I was once in a position to raise the Mexican flag over the Alamo, but as I was the only English speaking person at the place it would have been pointless.

CDN_PATRIOT CDN_PATRIOT: Personally, I don't think this 'incident' warranted the press it got, nor do the 'perpetrators' deserve any kind of punishment. If anything, it just proves that Americans can't seem to take any kind of joke whatsoever. And then the comments from some Americans: "We should just invade Canada and annex the whole slow-moving country. It should be easy since they don't have any guns." Seriously? That kind of arrogance and ignorance has got them into big trouble in the past. (Pearl Harbour, Vietnam, 9/11) It's a shame they never learn. Perhaps we should burn the White House down fo the fourth time. -J. If you going to burn down the White House don't forget to include Congress this time. It would be the first news worthy thing coming out of Washington in a long time.

GreenTiger GreenTiger: I was once in a position to raise the Mexican flag over the Alamo Good thing you didn't do that. $1: Texas Judge: Why exactly did you shoot the young man eighty times?
Texan: He raised a Mexican flag over the Alamo.
Texas Judge: Yes, but why did you shoot him eighty times?
Texan: Because I ran out of ammunition.
Texas Judge: Well, I can forgive that. Next time, make sure you have more ammo, y'hear now?

rawmeat rawmeat: Another reader wrote: "I'm ashamed to be Canadian -- absolutely outrageous. I'm stunned.
It pisses me off when people say shit like the above quote. Who the hell is ashamed to be canadian because of what a couple of jack asses did? That is just stupid. I heard a lot of those sentiments when Stephen Harper became PM, and in the states it happened when George Bush was elected. Usually uttered by the loony left. I should add that I have never been ashamed to be Canadian, even during the reign of Trudeau, but on more than one occasion have been ashamed at the actions of my countrymen and some of our political leaders. (Certain female Liberal ministers come to mind)

Tearing it down and replacing it? Decent prank I guess.
Doing it AFTER you beat us at hockey, gloating about it, AND burying our flag under rocks?
Really?
Really?

Really? Why not gloat. Not like the US wouldn't have done its share of gloating if they had won. The part I have issues with is the burying the flag under a pile of rocks. That whats really disrespectful.

Really? Slow down now. As you can see, most, if not all here thought the prank was funny UNTIL the destruction of the US flag. And I'm sure most, if not all here wouldn't do that to the US flag even if it was on OUR soil. Ok, maybe pull the ol' switcheroo but we'd make sure your flag was properly looked after in the process. A couple of stupid wankers doth not a nation's attitude make
